Mike Mayfield

Mike Mayfield was a first year assistant coach this season for the Madison Area Technical College women’s basketball team. Prior to MATC, Mayfield coached at Monona Grove High School for 23 years compiling an overall record of 243-153. For the first seventeen years he coached the freshman team before taking over as head coach during the 2001-02 season. His 2002-03 team claimed the WIAA Regional title.

Mayfield grew up in Washington, D.C. He attended Chamberlain Vocation High School where he lettered in baseball and basketball. He earned team MVP and team captain honors in his senior season. After high school, Mayfield enrolled at College of Eastern Utah in, Price, Utah to play basketball. After two years at the college he transferred to Norland College in Ashland, WI, playing two more years, before earning his bachelors degree in Geology and Geography.

In addition to coaching basketball, Mayfield has served as a Vocational/Educational assistant at Monona Grove High School for the past ten years. He and his wife Lisa live in Madison and have three children.
