Lyle Hanson is in his 30th season with the Madison Area Technical College baseball program. Since 1977, Hanson has been involved with the MATC baseball program. Since 1957, he has been involved in baseball in the state of Wisconsin.
In 1988, Hanson served as head coach for one season, winning state and conference titles and compiling a 26-13 record. Since then, he has served as assistant coach and baseball coordinator. Hanson currently assists with game and umpire scheduling.
Hanson grew up in Utica, WI and played four sports (baseball, basketball, volleyball, and golf) at Cambridge High School. After high school, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
Hanson was inducted into the MATC Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999. In addition to working with the MATC Baseball team, he has been a full-time mathematics instructor at the college for 30 years. His wife’s name is Shirley and his sons are Erik and Bjorn. Hanson’s son, Erik, played an integral part on two MATC National Championship teams in 1995 and 1996. Hanson currently live in Deerfield, WI with his wife, Shirley.
