Leo Kalinowski begins his 12th season as the Madison Area Technical College head baseball coach. Kalinowksi has compiled a 391-125-2 record at MATC. His teams are consistently one of the top-ranked teams in the nation.
Coach Kalinowski’s teams have captured 11 consecutive Wisconsin Technical College Conference titles. His teams have won 10 of the last 11 Wisconsin Junior College Athletic Association state titles, seven National Junior College Athletic Association Region XIII titles, and have made five NJCAA Division III National Championship appearances.
In 1994, MATC advanced to the NJCAA Division III National Championship for the first time in school history, finishing third. It didn’t stop there, as MATC went on to claim the program’s first NJCAA Division III national baseball title in 1995. In fact, MATC Baseball claimed back-to-back-to-back NJCAA Division III National Championships in 1995, 1996, and 1997. They made it back to the national championship in 1999 and finished fourth.
“We have had great success here at MATC,” said Kalinowski. “I have had a number of quality players who have contributed to the success of this program throughout the years.”
In addition to winning championships, Kalinowski has a reputation for sending players to NCAA Division I, II, and III schools. He has coached numerous NJCAA All-Americans and Major League draftees.

Massachusetts playing high school baseball at Housac Valley H.S. After high school, Kalinowski attended University of Massachusetts. From 1977-1979, he was a Division I starter for the University of Massachusetts, leading them to a NCAA Tournament berth in 1978-1979.
Following graduation, Kalinowski continued his baseball career playing in a semi-pro league in New Brunswick, Canada. In 1980, he traveled to Amsterdam, Holland to play for three years. While in Holland he helped coach youth baseball programs. In 1997, he received his degree in sports management from the University of Massachusetts.
In addition to coaching, Kalinowski is the Vice-President of McKeogh Land Company. At home, he is kept busy with his three children, Kennedy, Connor, and Joshua. Kalinowski, along with his wife, Sara, and children live in Stoughton, WI.
Kalinowski is excited about the future of the WolfPack Baseball Program. After a successful run in NJCAA Division III, the WolfPack Baseball Program made the change to NJCAA Division II during the 2000 season. “Division II gives us a fresh challenge, while giving us the opportunity to reward student-athletes with scholarship monies,” said Kalinowksi. Additionally, remodeling projects to Robin Roberts Baseball Field continue to upgrade an already outstanding, first-class facility. “Our facility is among the best in the Midwest,” added Kalinowski.
