Top 20 finish for Nicewander leads WolfPack at Edgewood Fall Invite

Three players make collegiate debuts, three more establish new career lows

MADISON, WISC. - Freshman Delaina Nicewander recorded the first top 20 finish in program history as Madison College women's golf competed in its home city against seven four-year schools and one other junior college program at the Edgewood University Fall Invite at Odana Hills Golf Course on Sunday and Monday. Madison College finished ninth overall and saw three players set new career-lows in their second tournament, while three more made their collegiate debuts.

Nicewander played even par through the tournament's first five holes after opening with one of two birdies for the WolfPack in the 36-hole event. The Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, native turned in an 88 (+16) to sit tied for 26th overall. Round 2's shotgun start saw Nicewander finish with six consecutive pars for a career-best 11-over-par 83 that moved her up seven spots to a tie for 19th at 171 (+27).

Katey Buchanan, a native of Harbor Springs, Michigan, placed 47th with a two-day total of 194 (+50). She signed off on her first sub-100 round on Sunday with a career-low 94, and followed it up with a 100.

Lauren Richards made her collegiate debut as the former Edgerton HS player recorded a 203 (+59) over 36 holes. The freshman recovered from an opening round 104 to post a 99 on Monday to place 54th. Kate Sendelbach, a product of Evansville, Wisconsin, was right behind in 55th place with a 206 (+62). Following a career-best 99 to start the tournament, she shot a 107 to drop six spots on the leaderboard. Fellow first year Emma Cegielski tallied a 210 (+66) as the native of Winneconne, Wisconsin, posted consistent play with back-to-back rounds of 105.

Two others made their first college golf appearances as individuals for the WolfPack, as Stace Stacy finished 62nd overall and Camille Bushnell was 65th. Stacy, a former Monona Grove HS golfer, turned in scores of 112 and 122 for a 36-hole total of 234 (+90), while Bushnell, a native of Trinity, Alabama, had a 337, but managed to improve by 21 strokes from a 179 to a 158.

Weekend rains meant the tournament was played in some very wet conditions as the WolfPack turned in team scores of 385 and 387, with the former sitting as the new standard for 18 holes for Madison College. The 772 two-day total was 56 shots back of the host Eagles in eighth place. NCAA Division III UW-Stevens Point claimed the team title with a 644. Marian University's Yinan Lu won the individual title by a stroke, with a pair of Rock Valley College golfers placing second and third.
