Five-run sixth inning sends (1) WolfPack into Region 4 Tournament semifinals

Madison College earns run-ruled victory over in-state rival (7) Bryant & Stratton

MADISON, WISC. - A big sixth inning propelled top-seeded Madison College to a 10-2 victory over #7-seeded Bryant & Stratton College in the quarterfinal round of the Region 4 Division II Tournament at Robin Roberts Field on Thursday morning. Sophomore Beau Bloxdorf led the offensive attack, while second year starting pitcher Broden Jackson held the Bobcats at bay. Madison College is 15-5 all-time against BSC, including a 2-1 mark this season and a 2-0 record in postseason meetings.

Bryant & Stratton College (34-21) scored the game's first run with a double and a single in the top of the first inning.

It remained a 1-0 game until the bottom of the third inning, which began with a walk of second baseman JJ Wolbert. Two batters later, freshman centerfielder Jonah Roloff singled up the middle to score Wolbert and tie the game.

Madison College took its first lead in the fourth when a single and a balk put Bloxdorf in scoring position with two outs. Freshman Eason Hurd came through with a clutch single through the left side, driving in Bloxdorf to make it 2-1.

The game changed in the sixth inning when the WolfPack racked up five runs on four hits, one walk, and one error. With the bases loaded on three consecutive singles and one away, rightfielder Braylen White put a ground ball in play that resulted in a BSC error and scored two runs. A walk re-loaded the bases for sophomore Nate Novinska, who drove a base hit to center to make it 5-1. A wild pitch would score White before a sacrifice fly from sophomore Quinn Falish plated Roloff for a six-run advantage.

The WolfPack tacked on another run in the seventh when the Bobcats first baseman misplayed a ground ball by Wolbert with the bases loaded.

After Bryant & Stratton College put another run on the board in the top of the eighth, Madison College ended the game via run-rule. Falish and Sam Moses singled to start the frame, and after moving up a base on a sacrifice by Bloxdorf, both would score as freshman designated hitter Casey Wambach singled to left for a ten-run lead.

Jackson, a native of Janesville, Wisconsin, threw 7.1 innings and limited the Bobcats to a run on four hits and two walks. The righthander struck out three before Noah Musolf took over to record the final two outs. In the process he surrendered a run and two hits.

The WolfPack registered 13 hits in the win, led by Bloxdorf with a 3 for 3 effort including a walk. The Franksville, Wisconsin, native, scored a team-high three runs.

Four other players had two hits in the game, with Wambach posting two runs batted in and a run scored. Roloff and Hurd each had two hits, scored one run, and drove in another, while Novinska's two base knocks resulted in one RBI.

White and Wolbert combined to drive in three runs and score two despite going a combined 0 for 8 with a walk.
