HOME COOKIN': #7 WolfPack takes care of Rock Valley with run-ruled win

Madison College racks up 16 hits, Marschke strikes out 13 during home opener

MADISON, WISC. - After 20 games played away from home, the Madison College baseball team finally played a game at Robin Roberts Field on Friday as they earned an 11-1 win in eight innings over Region 4 rival Rock Valley College. The #7-ranked WolfPack posted their second most hits in a game this season with 16 as five players registered multiple hits in the game, and starting pitcher Noah Marschke stuck out a season-high 13 batters. The victory to open a home-and-home extends the Pack's all-time series lead over the Golden Eagles to 44-23.

Marschke, a lefthander from Stevens Point, Wisconsin, set the tone by striking out the first six batters he faced. The WolfPack offense provided run support in the second inning with a successful double steal that resulted in Nate Novinska sliding across home plate for a 1-0 lead. In the third, second baseman JJ Wolbert single through the right side, freshman Eason Hurd double to center, and first year first baseman Ian Salvesen singled in Wolbert for a two-run advantage.

Still 2-0 in the fifth, Madison College doubled its lead as Salvesen came up with the bases loaded and no outs after three consecutive singles, including back-to-back bunt hits, from Easton Engel, Wolbert, and Hurd. Salvesen came through again with ground ball to right field that plated Engel and Wolbert.

The WolfPack broke the game open in the sixth with four more runs on four hits. After Rock Valley College (13-8) brought in a new pitcher, shortstop Beau Bloxdorf singled to right, advanced on a wild pitch, and raced home on a run-scoring base hit by freshman Casey Wambach. Following a third straight single from Engel, Wolbert came through with a grounded out to second to score Wambach. The inning was capped in style with a two-run bomb by Eason Hurd. The home run to left field made it 8-0 and gave Hurd his second of the season.

After RVC got on the scoreboard with run in the top of the seventh, the WolfPack answered with two runs of their own. Sam Moses doubled to center, scoring Novinska, and Engel singled to left to bring in Moses. The game ended via run-rule in the eighth with freshman outfielder Braylen White lined a single to center to bring home Novinska for the ten-run win.

Marschke dominated the Rock Valley bats with 13 strikeouts, a season-high that finished one shy of his career-best from 2025. He tossed 5.2 scoreless innings, allowing four hits and walking two. Carter Lund took over for two-thirds-inning and gave up a run on three hits and a walk. He did fan one before freshman Aaron Ploszay fanned three in his 1.1 innings. Noah Musolf finished off the game with one-third of an inning and one K as the WolfPack arms amassed 18 strikeouts in all.

At the plate, Hurd and Engel each had recorded a career-high three hits in the win. Hurd, a native of Green Bay, Wisconsin, drove in two runs and score another, while Engel crossed home twice and brought in another.
