MADISON, WISC. - One day after scoring a season-high 21 runs, the Madison College baseball team kept their hot bats going as they throttled the College of DuPage in a Region 4 doubleheader sweep that saw the home team outscore the opposition by a 23-7 margin. The #7-ranked WolfPack secured wins of 8-2 and 15-5 in five innings, with the finale ending in a run-ruled walk-off. The two victories pushes Madison College past the 30-win plateau for the sixth consecutive season and the 19th time under head coach

Game #1: #7 Madison College 8, College of DuPage 2
Sophomore
Chase Baker (3-0) threw a gem in game one, striking out a career-high 12 batters over 5.1 innings. The southpaw from Mukwonago, Wisconsin, allowed a run on two hits and a walk, before
Jack Poellot would take over for the final 1.2 innings. The freshman was also tagged for a run on two hits and fanned a pair of hitters.
The WolfPack got the scoring train moving early with
JJ Wolbert drawing a leadoff walk to start the bottom of the first. Two more walks loaded the bases and a fourth in the inning issued to
Sam Moses forced in a run for a 1-0 lead. Two innings later, second year catcher
Nate Novinska clubbed a solo home run to center field, adding a second run to the scoreboard. It's his second home run in as many games.
Three consecutive singles by
Beau Bloxdorf,
Matt Gruber, and Wolbert opened the fourth inning and eventually resulted in three more runs.
Braylen White and
Ian Salvesen each recorded a sacrifice fly, and Novinska added to his productive day with a run-scoring double to make it 5-0.
Madison College again found themselves with the bases filled in the fifth inning, and Wolbert took advantage with a two-run single to right field, scoring
Quinn Falish and Bloxdorf. Gruber would eventually score on a wild pitch to go up 8-0.
The College of DuPage would add a run each in the sixth and seventh innings, but it was not enough to make a game of it.
Wolbert, a native of Wales, Wisconsin, was 2 for 3 with a walk, two runs scored, and two runs batted in from the top spot in the order. Novinska and Falish also had two hits in the game, with Novinska driving in two runs and scoring another. Falish crossed home once. Bloxdorf and Gruber each had a hit and scored two runs.
Game #2: #7 Madison College 15, College of DuPage 5 (5 innings)
The College of DuPage (16-20) continued their momentum from the late runs in the opener to take an early lead in the first inning of game two. The Chaparrals used a hit by pitch, a single, a double, and a ground out to put two runs on the scoreboard.
The WolfPack got one run back in the bottom of the frame, when
Nate Novinska's two-out single up the middle drove in
Quinn Falish, who had also singled two batters earlier. Falish and Novinska then combined to provide a huge offensive punch in the second inning. With the bases loaded, Falish drove a 3-2 pitch over the wall in left for a grand slam and his fourth home run of the season. Two batters later, Novinska sent another ball to deep left to make it 6-2 with his team-leading seventh home run of the year and third in as many games.
The runs kept coming in the third frame. Following walks of
Chase Maika and
Jonah Roloff, as well as a bunt single from
JJ Wolbert, the bases were again loaded with no outs for Falish; however, he kept it in the park this time with a sacrifice fly to score Maika. Another walk to
Ian Salvesen reload the bases for Novinska, who also drew a walk to force in Roloff.
Sam Moses then singled to right field and scored two more with Wolbert and Salvesen crossing home.
Paul Nuetzel capped the five-run inning with a sac fly to take a commanding 11-2 lead.
DuPage would add three runs in the top of the fourth, using a solo home run and a WolfPack error to close within 11-5. However, Madison College's (31-8) scoring escapades would continue in the bottom of the frame. Moses hit a two-run single after three walks had loaded the bases, and Nuetzel clubbed an RBI-double. Madison remained ahead 14-5 until Novinska called game in the bottom of the fifth with a grounder through the left side that scored Falish for a run-ruled victory.
Novinska was the superstar of Saturday's doubleheader. The native of Verona, Wisconsin, was 3 for 3 with a home run and two walks, while setting new season-highs with four runs batted in and three runs scored in the nightcap. On the day he finished with five hits, including two homers and a double, six RBI and six runs scored.
