#8 WolfPack gets back on track with sweep of Lake County

Novinska goes yard for fourth time, Tevz strikes out nine

MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College baseball team rebounded from Saturday's setback that snapped a ten-game win streak by sweeping Sunday's doubleheader against the College of Lake County at Robin Roberts Field. The #8-ranked WolfPack took wins of 6-1 and 5-1 to push their lead in the all-time series with the Lancers to 40-8 with their ninth straight win.

Game #1: #8 Madison College 6, College of Lake County 1

Madison College used one big swing to open the day's scoring as sophomore Nate Novinska blasted a two-run home run to center field in the first inning. Ian Salvesen had reached on an error in the at-bat prior, extending the inning for Novinska to smash his fourth homer of the year.

In the second, the WolfPack used back-to-back two-out doubles from freshmen Chase Maika and Matt Gruber to go up 3-0. A single to left off the bat of JJ Wolbert allowed Gruber to race home for a four-run advantage.

Lake County tallied their lone run in the third, which was answered immediately as first year shortstop Eason Hurd lined a single to center after sophomore Sam Moses grounded a ball through the right side and stole second. Moses was able to race in from second on Hurd's hit for a 5-1 differential.

The game's final run came in the fifth with Moses scoring another run on a single to left by Maika.

Starter Noah Musolf (3-1) and reliever Charlie Slawinski combined on a two-hit effort. Musolf, a sophomore from Franklin, Wisconsin, struck out five over five innings and surrendered just one run on a hit and five walks. Slawinski took over for the final two scoreless innings and registered one hit allowed, one walk, and one K.

Moses, a native of Cedarburg, Wisconsin, was 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Maika also had two hits as the former Kenosha Tremper HS athlete scored a run and drove in another. Novinska was tops with two RBI, to go along with a hit and a run.

Game #5: #8 Madison College 5, College of Lake County 1

Madison College again took a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a single and four consecutive walks, the last two of which forced in runs with Quinn Falish and Paul Nuetzel at bat.

It remained a two-run game until a three-run fourth inning put the WolfPack up 5-0. With two on and two out, Ian Salvesen continued his hot hitting with a single to right to bring in Jonah Roloff and Matt Gruber. Nate Novinska followed with a run-scoring single as Eason Hurd crossed home.

A wild pitch in the top of the sixth put the College of Lake County (8-22) on the scoreboard; however, the Lancers left the bases loaded.

Salvesen finished with two hits, two runs batted in, and a run scored for the former Wittenberg-Birnamwood HS athlete. Gruber, a native of Franksville, Wisconsin, also had a pair of hits from the leadoff spot and scored one run. Novinska finished with a hit, a run scored, and a RBI.

Sophomore Adison Tevz (3-2) earned the win after pitching 5.1 innings of scoreless baseball. The righthander from New Berlin, Wisconsin, tied a career high with nine strikeouts, while allowing two hits. Mason Sherman took over, but issued walks to all four batters he faced, resulting in an earned run. Casey Wambach took over and closed our his team-leading third save of the season with 1.2 innings of work and one strikeout.
