CASA GRANDE, ARIZ. - Saturday's baseball doubleheader between Madison College and Williston State College featured ten combined home runs, including seven in one game by the Tetons; however, the #12-ranked WolfPack swept the twin bill with wins of 6-1 and 15-13.
Easton Engel,
Sam Moses, and
Nate Novinska all hit balls over the fence in the sweep, which extended the team's current win streak to five straight games. The Pack is now 32-5 all-time against WSC.
Game #1: #12 Madison College 6, Williston State College 1
Trailing 1-0 through two innings, Madison College got on the board with a five-run third. Sophomore
Quinn Falish stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and ripped a double to center to clear them all as
Noah Fitzgerald,
Nate Novinska, and
Sam Moses all touched home. With the bases filled again later in the frame, shortstop
Beau Bloxdorf lined a single to right that allowed Falish and
Eason Hurd.
The 5-1 lead held until the seventh inning when freshman
Easton Engel went yard for the second consecutive game, hitting a solo home run to left to make it a five-run differential.
A trio of sophomore arms combined on a two-hitter with nine strikeouts for the Pack.
Braycen Burg (1-0), a native of Rubicon, Wisconsin, secured his first win of the season and third of his career with three innings of work and four strikeouts. He allowed one unearned run and one hit.
Camden Broske allowed the other hit in two scoreless frames that included a walk and a K. And
Landon Dessart struck out four and walked one in his two innings on the bump.
Novinska, a former Verona Area HS athlete, led the way with two hits and a walk, scoring one run.
Falish, a DePere, Wisconsin, native, had a hit, a career-best three RBI, and one run scored.
Bloxdorf also had multiple runs batted in with two, while Engel used the home run to muster one hit, one run, and one run batted in.
Game #1: #12 Madison College 6, Williston State College 1
Game two was all about the home run ball, even though the team with significantly more dingers did not get the win. Williston State College (24-9) jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the top of the first.
Madison College responded immediately with four runs in the home half.
Nate Novinska brought in
Beau Bloxdorf with a sacrifice,
Ian Salvesen doubled home
Sam Moses, and then back-to-back free passes with the bases loaded gave RBI's to
Chase Maika and
Matt Gruber.
After WSC posted another solo home run in the second, the WolfPack added to their advantage in the third. Bloxdorf doubled down the left field line with the bases loaded to drive in all three runs, and then scored on a line drive single off the bat of
JJ Wolbert. Mosed singled in Wolbert to complete the five-run inning for a 9-2 lead.
Williston State cut the differential to 9-6 in the top of the fifth with back-to-back-to-back home runs; however, the WolfPack followed a Moses RBI-single in the home half with a two-run blast by Novinska to make it 12-6.
Moses added to his big day in the sixth with a three-run bomb for his first home run of the season and third of his career.
The WolfPack had some issues closing out the win in the seventh as the Tetons hit not one, but two 3-run homers made it a 15-13 game and forcing Madison College to go to the bullpen. Freshman
Casey Wambach entered and retired the first batter he faced for his first career save.
Moses, a Cedarburg, Wisconsin, native, set career bests with three hits, five runs batted in, and three runs scored.
Bloxdorf went just 1 for 4, but still managed to score three runs and drive in three more, while Novinska was 1 for 4 with three runs driven in and a run scored.
Salvesen, a second year catcher from Hatley, Wisconsin, was 3 for 5 with two runs and a RBI. Wolbert posted two hits, one run batted in, and one more scored.
Gruber, a first year outfielder, drew three walks, scored three runs, and earned one run batted in.
Sophomore
Adison Tevz (1-1) earned his second career victory and first since March 10, 2024. The righthander tossed three innings with three strikeouts, allowing two runs on three hits.
Charlie Slawinski and
Mason Sherman each struck out three batters in their combined 3.2 innings; however, they allowed a combined ten earned run on seven hits and eight walks.
