MADISON, WISC. - Two of the top teams in Region 4 women's volleyball battled through five tough sets Wednesday night inside H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium, but in the end, it was visiting Rock Valley College that came away with a 3-2 victory by scores of 21-25, 25-21, 25-19, 13-25, 15-10. Sophomores
Makayla Dallas and
Ella Vosberg each posted a double-double as the WolfPack's 21-match win streak against Region 4 opponents came to an end.
Rock Valley College (23-4) appeared to be pulling away in the opening set with a 19-15 lead that forced a Madison College timeout. The home team answered, closing out the set with a 10-2 surge that featured three kills and an ace by Vosberg. It was nearly déjà vu in the second set with the WolfPack again calling a timeout after falling behind 20-16. Unfortunately, the Golden Eagles held a late rally as the Pack closed to within one before RVC finished with a 5-2 run.
The third set belonged to the visitors, with Rock Valley using an 8-3 push midway through to build an eight point lead and cruise to the win. Madison College responded with a dominant fourth set, slowling pulling away before freshman
Jaydon Golsteyn slammed the door shut with back-to-back aces.
In the decisive fifth, Dallas terminated a kill to put the WolfPack in front 3-1 before the Golden Eagles ran off seven straight points to take an 8-3 advantage. Madison College trimmed the deficit to two when another Vosberg kill made it 10-8; however, another 4-0 run by RVC made it match point with some breathing room.
Dallas, a native of Valders, Wisconsin, registered her sixth double-double of the season with 12 kills and ten assists. Vosberg's 11 kills and 17 assists gave the Cuba City, Wisconsin, native, her seventh double-double.
Caylee Coggins added nine kills and a team-high 2.5 blocks.
All-American setter
Allie Andrews posted 36 assists, as well as five kills, five digs, and 1.0 block. Golsteyn led with three aces, while sophomore
Sam Schultz tracked down a team-best 28 digs, followed by 17 from first year libero
Amara Jahner.
With the win, RVC now leads the all-time series by a 47-32-1 count.
