Joliet defends home floor, takes down #12 WolfPack

Madison College allows most points in a game this season

JOLIET, ILL. - The Madison College men's basketball team has scored 100 or more points in a game seven times this season; however, Tuesday night's Region 4 clash at Joliet Junior College marked the first time an opposing team reached the century mark as the Wolves earned a 104-94 decision in Region 4 competition. Five players scored in double-figures for the WolfPack, who moved up one spot to #12 in the latest NJCAA Division II Poll earlier in the day. The result improves the JJC lead in the all-time series with the WolfPack to 29-11.

Madison College held a narrow 18-13 lead through the game's first six minutes. Joliet Junior College (8-10) scored the next five points to pull even and the back-and-forth game continued with the teams still tied at 31-31 with 6:45 remaining after a pair of George Whaley IV free throws. The Wolves engineered an 11-0 run to secure the first double-digit lead in the game, and never relinquished the advantage. They led 50-42 at the half.

Early in the second half, the Wolves expanded the differential to 12 with a 57-45 score, only to see Madison College battle back to make it a two possession game at 62-58 with about 13 minutes remaining. That is as close as the Pack would get, as JJC strung together a 14-4 run for their largest lead of the day at 78-62. Madison College was never able to get closer than eight points over the final eight minutes before the Wolves scored the most points by a WolfPack opponent this season.

Whaley was tops with 23 points on 9 of 17 shooting with one 3-pointer and makes on all four free throw attempts. The guard from Williamsport, Pennsylvania, has reached the 20-point plateau on four occasions this season, and continues to lead the team with a 14.2 points per game average.

Second year transfer Noah Compan came off the bench to produce 19 points as the La Crosse, Wisconsin, native, finished 8 of 10 from the floor and made 3 of his 6 free throws.

Braylen Blue sank three shots from beyond the arc for the second straight game and racked up 15 points. Overall, the former Madison Memorial HS athlete was 4 for 10 and a perfect 4 for 4 at the stripe. Blue also led the team with three assists.

First year forward Carter Sullivan added 14 points on 6 of 9 shooting with a pair of three-pointers. The native of Stoughton, Wisconsin, reeled in seven rebounds to lead the WolfPack.

Cam Williams, a freshman guard, pitched in with a dozen points.

In the loss, Madison College shot 51% (34-66) from the floor, 41% (9-22) from three-point range, and 81% (17-21).
