SOUTH HOLLAND, ILL. - Madison College remains one of four teams unbeaten in Region 4 competition after sweeping two matches at Friday's South Suburban Triangular as they took down Kankakee Community College and the host Bulldogs by identical 3-0 scores. Freshmen
Ella Vosberg and
Allie Andrews led the attack in the opener against the Cavaliers, while the #20-ranked WolfPack hit a season-high attack percentage and limited South Suburban to just 34 total points in the finale.
Match #1: #20 Madison College 3, Kankakee Community College 0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-20)
Madison College used a 10-5 run midway through the opening set to create enough separation for a seven-point win, and then used the momentum to race out to a 9-3 advantage in the second set against the Cavaliers (8-9). After KCC closed the gap to within three, the WolfPack generated an 8-2 burst to regain control with a 19-10 advantage. The third set saw the Pack trailing 9-7 when they rattled off seven straight points. With match point at 24-20, Vosberg finished off the sweep with her team-leading 13th kill of the match.
Vosberg, a Cuba City, Wisconsin, native, was the only player with double-digit kills as she posted a .400 attack percentage on 30 swings. The 5'11" outside hitter has reached ten or more kills in seven straight matches and 14 times overall.
Fellow freshman
Sam Schultz was right behind with nine kills, while also leading the team with 19 digs to tie her career-high.
Allie Andrews, a first year setter, racked up 40 assists, two kills, two aces, and two digs. Libero
Avery Agnew, a freshman from Milton, Wisconsin, scooped up 16 digs.
Madison College finished the match hitting .255 with 41 kills for an average of 13.67 kills per set. They also amassed six aces, seven blocks, and 56 digs to improve to 4-4 all-time against Kankakee.
Match #2: #20 Madison College 3, South Suburban College 0 (25-9, 25-8, 25-17)
The day's second match was a bit more lopsided as the WolfPack surrendered just 17 points over the first two sets. The opening set saw the visitors storm out to a 12-0 advantage.
Makayla Dallas bookended the run with two kills, while
Rowan Harder had a kill and a block for consecutive points. Set two was closer out of the gates at 6-4 until Madison picked up ten straight points, which included back-to-back aces by Dallas. Madison slowly pulled away over the course of the third and final set to earn the sweep.
The team finished with 31 kills and a season-best .388 attack percentage, to go along with nine aces, five blocks, and 35 digs. Six different players registered a kill, led by eight with a .583 efficiency by
Ella Vosberg. Harder, a native of Waupun, Wisconsin, was tops with an .857 attack percentage and tallied six kills. Three others had five kills.
Allie Andrews distributed 26 assists, and tied Dallas,
Cora Webster, and
Sam Schultz with two aces. She also matched Harder for the team lead in blocks with two. Webster, a sophomore defensive specialist/libero from Waunakee, Wisconsin, tracked down nine digs, one better than
Avery Agnew with eight.
The WolfPack is 4-0 all-time against South Suburban College (6-13)
