Nielsen's goals send WolfPack to sixth straight win

Madison College off to best start since 2007

MADISON, WISC. - Saturday night's 3-1 win over Waubonsee Community College in a Region 4 men's soccer match extended Madison College's season-opening win streak to six straight, marking the first time the program has been unbeaten through that many matches since 2016 and the first time they've won their first half-dozen matches since 2007. Sophomore Hudson Nielsen netted a pair of goals for the second time this season. The decision gives the WolfPack a 7-5-2 advantage in the head-to-head series with the Chiefs.

Nielsen, a native of Huntley, Illinois, got the scoring started just 6' into the match. Freshman Carson Stebbins came up with a steal just outside the Waubonsee Community College (2-4-1) penalty area and was able to keep the Chiefs defenders away from the ball long enough for second year midfielder Cole Rogers to race in for control. Rogers dumped a pass to the middle of the box for Nielsen, who demonstrated some nifty juggling before popping the ball over the goalkeeper and into the net.

The Chiefs were able to even the score at 1-1 in the 25', scoring against freshman goalkeeper Coltrane LoBreglio in his collegiate debut. The tie didn't last long with Nielsen converting a Mason Leslie pass in the 32' for the game-winner. Nielsen leads the team with four goals on the season, and owns 14 goals for his career.

Before the first half was over, the WolfPack took a 3-1 lead with the first career goal for freshman defender Guilherme Amaral. Sophomore Geo Prado sent a pass from midfield towards the goal, and Amaral was able to redirect it into the net. The assist for Prado is the first collegiate point for the Third Team All-Region 4 selection from 2024.

LoBreglio, a native of Oregon, Wisconsin, saw four total shots in his first 90 minutes of action, allowing the goal on the only shot on goal. Madison College generated 18 total shots and put seven on goal. The home team also held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
