Madison buries in-state foe Western Tech in seventh straight win

Young hitters continue to lead efficient offensive

MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College women's volleyball team extended their season-opening win streak to seven consecutive matches with a 3-1 (25-11, 25-7, 23-25, 25-9) over Western Tech on Thursday inside H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. Defensively, the WolfPack held the Cavaliers to just 14 kills for the match and just 27 combined points in the three sets they won, while a trio of freshman posted double-digit kills as the home team registered a better than .300 attack percentage for the fourth time this season. The victory came in the 100th all-time meeting between the two programs, with Madison boasting a 60-40 lead in a series that dates back to 1980.

Madison College held a 10-8 lead in the first set when freshman Ella Vosberg hammered a kill to spark a quick 4-0 run that was part of a bigger 15-3 surge to win. The WolfPack finished the opening set with a dozen kills and a .375 efficiency.

A blitz of seven straight points early in the second set put the home team up 12-3, and after a Western Tech (2-5) point, Madison put together a six-point run to take a commanding 18-5 advantage. They eventually won the set by 18 points after closing with a 5-0 stretch. The dominating set featured a .500 attack percentage and a match-high 15 kills.

Everything seemed primed for a three-set win for Madison College leading 11-6 in the third; however, the Cavaliers battled back to tie the game at 12-12 and eventually grabbed the lead at 19-18. They were able to win the set, thanks in part to 16 total hitting errors, including eight service errors.

In a repeat of Tuesday's 3-1 home win, Madison College recovered to win the match in four sets. The WolfPack won 19 of 24 points after owning a narrow 6-4 advantage following back-to-back aces from sophomore Cora Webster. The set included runs of four, five, and six straight points as the Pack tacked on 13 kills at a .393 clip.

Madison amassed 52 kills, 11 aces, 5.0 blocks, 58 digs, and a .339 efficiency. The match marked the fifth this season with double-digit aces and their third with five rejections.

Vosberg, an outside hitter from Cuba City, Wisconsin, led the team with 14 kills and a .444 efficiency. Fellow first year outside hitter Makayla Dallas established a new career high with 12 kills for her first double-digit effort of her career.

Sam Schultz showed her versatility as the native of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, native secured her second straight double-double with 11 kills and a team-high 15 digs.

Three setters also reached double-figures with Allie Andrews dishing out 19 assists, followed by 14 from Tricia Klum and 12 by Sammy Johnson. Klum also led the team with three aces
