OAK CREEK, WISC. - Two days after dropping two games to begin a six-game road swing, the Madison College softball team suffered two more Region 4 setbacks Tuesday at Milwaukee Area Technical College. The host Stormers completed a rally from down five runs to take the opener 7-6 with a walk-off home run, and then used three late runs to take a 5-3 game in the finale. The WolfPack still own a 23-24 lead in the all-time series.
Game #1: Milwaukee Area Technical College 7, Madison College 6
The day's first game had nearly everything going the WolfPack's way for the first four-and-a-half innings as they built a 5-0 lead.
Raegen Schwarz scored in the first inning to give Madison College a 1-0 lead. After reaching on a single, she stole second and then raced around third to cross home on a line drive single to right by
Brooke Steinhorst. Some clutch two-out hitting in the third added up to another Schwarz run. The Appleton, Wisconsin, native, doubled to center, and Steinhorst delivered another RBI-single with a line drive to left to make it 2-0.
The fifth inning began with an inside-the-park home run by
Rylee Rogers, whose hard hit ground ball reached the right field corner and the speedy sophomore sprinted all the way around the bases for a 3-0 advantage. Four batters later, pitcher
Kendall Weik stepped to the plate with two runners on after singles by Steinhorst and
Brooke Anderson. Weik drove a fly ball to the wall in center, and pinch runner
Kaley Koltz and Anderson each made it home for the 5-0 differential.Â
The MATC-Milwaukee comeback began with a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth. Another three-run blast in the sixth put the Stormers up 6-5. Madison College pulled even at 6-6 in the top of the seventh. With a runner on, Weik hit another double to put runners at third and second. Anderson would score on a passed ball for a 6-6 score.
The Stormer sent pinch hitter Emily Pujanauski to the plate to lead off the bottom of the seventh, and after fouling off the first pitch of the at bat, she smashed a game-winning, walk-off home run to center.
Steinhorst finished 3 for 4 with two runs batted in. The Poynette, Wisconsin, native, now owns three three-hit games in 2025. Schwarz and Anderson each registered a pair of hits and two runs scored.Â
Weik, who put together two hits and two RBI at the plate, fell to 7-3 with her second consecutive loss in the circle. The righthander tossed six innings and struck out eight batters, but surrendered seven runs on five hits and three walks.
Game #2: Milwaukee Area Technical College 5, Madison College 3
Milwaukee Area Technical College (16-17) took an early 1-0 lead in the nightcap, using an error and two walks from starter
Brooke Steinhorst to load the bases and a sacrifice fly to plate the run.
The WolfPack took a 2-1 lead in the third on the first career home run by freshman
Raegen Schwarz. Her two-run homer to center came two batters after
Ava Stahl led off with a single. Stahl scored again in the fourth after reaching on a two-out single to center, stealing second base, and touching home on a line drive base hit up the middle from
Rylee Rogers to make it 3-1.
The Stormers got one back in the fourth with a solo home run. They took the lead for good with a three-run sixth inning that featured five hits. After a run-scoring ground out tied the game at 3-3 and put two outs on the board, Milwaukee Tech came through with a RBI-double and two more singles to make it 5-4.
Madison College racked up a dozen hits in the game, led by Stahl's fourth three-hit contest this season. The native of Wautoma, Wisconsin, also led the team with two runs scored. Schwarz, Steinhorst, and Anderson each had two hits, with Schwarz added two runs batted in and one run scored.
Steinhorst (6-4) suffered her second consecutive loss after giving up five runs, three of which were earned, on seven hits and three walks in her six innings of work.
