Two losses at Black Hawk run WolfPack losing skid to six

Madison College was outscored 17-3 in Region 4 doubleheader

MOLINE, ILL. - The Madison College softball team could not wait to be done with their most recent six game road swing, a stretch that ended with six consecutive losses after setbacks of 7-3 and 10-0 on Saturday at Black Hawk College. The WolfPack still maintains a 14-4 lead in the all-time series with the Braves, who are currently on an eight-game winning streak.

Game #1: Black Hawk College 7, Madison College 3

Host Black Hawk College scored the game's first run with a RBI-single in the bottom of the second; however, the WolfPack answered right back with two runs in the top of the third. Freshman Raegen Schwarz doubled to left field to score Rylee Rogers all the way from first, and then sophomore Brooke Anderson came through with a two-out double to center to drive in Schwarz for a 2-1 lead.

The advantage was short-lived with BHC getting two runs in their next half inning to regain a one-run edge at 3-2. The wins came via three hits, including a leadoff triple, and a walk. The Braves went ahead 5-2 in the fourth with a two-out rally of three hits, two steals, and an error. Another two-out rally in the fifth made it 7-3 after starter Brooke Steinhorst retired the first two batters, only to give up a single and a two-run home run.

Madison College did tally one more in the fifth with a sacrifice fly from Steinhorst that brought in Ava Stahl.

The WolfPack was limited to four hits. Schwarz, a former Appleton West HS athlete, had a hit, a run batted in, and a run scored. Stahl posted a hit and a run scored, while Anderson had a hit and a RBI.

Steinhorst (6-5) dropped her third consecutive start as she allowed five earned runs out of seven total runs in her six innings. She was tagged for 11 hits, issued three walks, and struck out two batters.

Game #2: Black Hawk College 10, Madison College 0 (5 innings)

The day's finale saw Black Hawk College (33-12) jump out to a 4-0 advantage in the first inning against starter Kendall Weik. The Braves used four hits, one walk, three steals, and one wild pitch to grab control of the game early. A five-run second inning pushed the differential to 9-0 on five more hits, three of which came with two outs. A bases loaded sacrifice fly in the third made it a 10-0 score.

Madison College did have chances to score, leaving two runners on in the second inning, one in the fourth, and two more in the fifth before the game ended via run-rule.

Freshman Jeneya Marquez Perez recorded her first collegiate hit as part of her first career multi-hit game. The Madison, Wisconsin, native, finished 2 for 2, while Emily Bopes, Brooke Steinhorst, and Brooke Anderson posted the other three hits.

Pitcher Kendall Weik (7-4) was tagged for ten runs, five of which were earned, on 13 hits and two walks en route to her third straight loss. She did strike out three batters.
