KANKAKEE, ILL. - Sunday's drive to Kankakee Community College resulted in a pair of losses and the end of an eight-game win streak for the Madison College softball team, who was unable to score a run in taking setbacks of 8-0 and 5-0 in the Region 4 doubleheader. The rough day also saw the WolfPack amass eight total hits and seven errors. The Pack still leads the all-time series by a 6-3 count; however, the Cavaliers, who were receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Division II Poll, have won three straight.
Game #1: Kankakee Community College 8, Madison College 0 (5 innings)
Back-to-back two-out singles for the WolfPack in the top of the first did not result in any runs, but it did leave the visitors with a positive feeling. Unfortunately, they would register just one more hit after that. Kankakee Community College took advantage of two errors in the first inning to go up 1-0, and then added three runs on two singles and two more errors in the second to push the lead to 4-0.Â
In the top of the fourth, Madison College had two runners in scoring position with two outs for freshman
Tristen Young, who was called out on strikes to end the threat. The Cavaliers took advantage with a four-run bottom half thanks to five hits and an error.
Raegen Schwarz,
Brooke Steinhorst, and
Brooke Anderson were the only players to get a hit for the WolfPack.
Steinhorst (6-3) took the loss with eight unearned runs allowed on seven hits and two walks. She did strike out one batter over four innings.
Game #1: Kankakee Community College 8, Madison College 0 (5 innings)
Eyeing a better start and result in the nightcap, Madison College put the first two batters of the game on via walks, but stranded them on the base paths. Kankakee Community College (25-10) did the same, leaving the bases loaded in their half of the first inning. The Cavaliers did record a run in the second with a clutch two-out single against starter
Kendall Weik.Â
After the the WolfPack again left two runners on in the third, KCC pounced with a three-run inning on three singles and an error. The four-run differential grew to 6-0 in the fifth when two runs score on two separate passed balls during the same at-bat with two outs.Â
Madison College finished with five hits, one each from
Raegen Schwarz,
Brooke Steinhorst,
Jenna Johnson,
Tailer Bartelt, and
Cora Nelson.
In the circle, Weik (7-2) was tagged for four earned runs and 11 hits, while walking four and striking out eight in her six innings of work.
