MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College baseball team made a late addition to their schedule with Monday's home game against NCAA Division III Rockford University JV, and took full advantage of the extra opportunity with an 11-1 win in eight innings at
Robin Roberts Field. First year bats
Tyler Butina and
Sam Moses led the way with a combined six hits and eight runs batted in for the WolfPack, who dropped to #12 in the latest NJCAA Division II Poll. The win gives the Pack an 8-1 mark all-time against the Regents.
Sophomore
Ryan Santi got the offense going in the second inning with a run-scoring double to right, plating freshmen
JJ Wolbert and
Beau Bloxdorf. The Regents cut the deficit in half in the top of the third with a pair of singles that resulted in a run.
It remained a 2-1 game until the fifth inning when Madison College exploded for six runs on five hits and three walks. With the bases loaded and two outs, Butina ripped a double to deep center that cleared the bases for a 5-1 lead. Moses, a Cedarburg, Wisconsin, native, followed with a home run to right field. The two-run shot was his second of the season. After another double by
Trace Kirchberg and a walk of
Landon Dessart, first year
Brady Henry singled to left to drive in Kirchberg and make it 8-1.
Butina, a transfer from Central Michigan University, added another RBI in the sixth with yet another double to center to bring in
Jalen Gellings. He capped his productive day at the plate in the eighth with his third run-scoring double of the game, which Moses followed with a double of his own to score Butina for a ten-run advantage.Â
The fifth player to record three doubles in a game over the past 25 years, Butina established career-highs with four hits and five runs batted in, while also scoring twice. The native of Jefferson, Wisconsin, now owns five games with three hits or more, as well as six games with at least three RBI.
Moses posted two hits, three runs batted in, and at least one run scored for the second time this season. Bloxdorf also finished with multiple hits, going 2 for 5 with two runs. Gellings led all players with three runs scored on a hit and two walks.
Starter Ben Ketelson earned his first career victory with five innings and four strikeouts. The righthander from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, allowed a run on five hits and one walk.
