MADISON, WISC. - The top seed in the
Region 4 Division II Women's Volleyball Tournament moved through the quarterfinal round Wednesday as Madison College earned a 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-12) sweep of #16-seeded McHenry County College inside
H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. Sophomore
Avery Agnew and freshmen
Allie Andrews both moved into third in the single-season record books for digs and assists, respectively, in helping the WolfPack, ranked #9 in the latest NJCAA Division II Poll, secure their 14th consecutive victory. The win sends the Pack into the semifinals on Saturday.
Madison College jumped out to a 4-0 lead to begin the match, using kills from
Ella Vosberg,
Caylee Coggins, and Andrews before
Sam Schultz registered an ace. McHenry County College (6-28) answered back to make it a 5-4 score, but after
Kate Howe racked up two kills to make it 8-5, the Pack exploded for a 9-0 run on the service of
Cora Webster. The sophomore posted four aces during that stretch, which saw the Scots us up two timeouts. The Pack eventually won by 14 points.
The second set was back-and-forth with the score at 13-12 when a
Makayla Dallas kill triggered a quick 6-1 surge as part of a bigger 12-5 closing sequence. Madison College, which never trailed in the match, strung together six consecutive points midway through the third set to take a 13-6 lead. The advantage swelled to 13 points at 22-9 before MCC won three of the next four points. Webster, a sophomore defensive specialist from Waunakee, Wisconsin, closed out the match with her team-leading fifth ace.
Coggins, a first year middle blocker from Columbia, Missouri, was tops with eight kills and a .636 attack percentage. She also delivered a pair of blocks in the win.
Vosberg, Dallas, and Schultz each posted six kills. Schultz and Dallas both also had six digs, while Schultz was second on the team with four aces.
Andrews, a native of Darlington, Wisconsin, racked up team-high's of 27 assists and eight digs, as well as three kills and a block. The setter moved into third place for assists in a single season in team history with 1,020, which is 11 shy of Hannah Grahn's record of 1,031 assists set during the 2014 season.
Agnew, a libero from Milton, Wisconsin, finished with six digs to reach 592 and sits third in that category for a single season. She trails record holder Sydney Clarson by 38 after Clarson posted 630 in 2014.
Madison College tallied 35 kills with a .306 hitting efficiency. They also had ten aces, five blocks, and 32 digs.
McHenry County College still leads the all-time series by a 9-5 tally; however, all five WolfPack wins have come within the last seven meetings.

Madison College (31-4), which will host the remainder of the
Region 4 Division II Women's Volleyball Tournament, will square off with #8-seeded Rock Valley College (17-22) in the semifinals. The Golden Eagles own a 46-31-1 lead in the all-time series; however, the two rivals have split eight prior postseason matchups. The WolfPack did sweep RVC on the road on September 25.
