MADISON, WISC. - The 2025-26 Madison College men's basketball team has now set the standard for best start in program history, winning their sixth in a row after a resounding 119-95 upset of Waubonsee Community College in a key Region 4 clash on Wednesday inside
H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. The WolfPack, who are receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Division II Poll, posted their most points since a 122-point effort against Wilbur Wright College in the 2018-19 season, en route to taking down the #18-ranked Chiefs. Waubonsee still leads the all-time series by a 9-4 count.
The high-scoring affair saw Madison College take a 19-8 lead just over five minutes into the game when
Carson McCormick nailed his second three-pointer. With the score at 31-19, Waubonsee Community College (4-1) used a three-pointer of their own to jumpstart an 18-5 surge and take a one-point lead. The Chiefs eventually went up by three points until the WolfPack closed out the half on a 12-3 burst to take a 58-51 advantage into halftime.
Five minutes into the second half, sophomore
Braylen Blue knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to ignite 12-0 run, which was part of a bigger 21-5 stretch. From that point on, the WolfPack never let the lead dwindle any lower than 15, while also growing to as high as 25 before the final horn sounded.
McCormick, a guard from Janesville, Wisconsin, made 6 of 8 attempts from beyond the arc, as part of an 11 for 15 effort overall that resulted in a season-high 28 points.
Backcourt mate
George Whaley IV added 16 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
A trio of player scored 13 points, including Blue,
Ryen Jones, and
Noah Compan. Blue matched Whaley and
Carter Sullivan for the team lead assists with three. Sullivan also was tops with a career-high 11 rebounds.
Jackson Bertagnoli rounded out the double-digit scoring with 11 points off the bench.
The WolfPack made it four straight games with a shooting percentage better than 50% with a season-high 59% on 40 for 67 shooting, while matching a season-best with 11 three-pointers. Madison controlled the paint with a 54-34 lead in points in the paint, as well as a 43-29 differential in total rebounds.
