MADISON, WISC. - Madison College men's soccer has enjoyed many great seasons in its 44-year history; however, the 2025 season will go down as its greatest after a 2-0 victory Saturday over Triton College on
Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East earned the program its first
Region 4 Division II Tournament championship and its first appearance at the NJCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championships. The top-seeded WolfPack, who had previously won nine Region 13 titles but could never get through a NJCAA District Tournament when it was a Division III program, took advantage of a gift from the Trojans, another goal by freshman
Josh Kiltz, and a third postseason shutout by goalkeeper
Caylen Coventry to secure an automatic berth into the national tournament with a still unbeaten record. Third year head coach
Logan Fye was awarded the Region 4 Coach of the Year.
A scoreless match changed in the blink of an eye in the 37' when #7-seeded Triton College (13-5-4) scored an own goal to give the Pack a 1-0 lead. As Madison College advanced the ball following a free kick, sophomore
Cole Rogers flipped a pass into the penalty area intended for
Johan Lopez. The pass was too far and a Trojans defender used a header to play it back to the goalkeeper. Unfortunately for Triton, the 'keeper had vacated the goalie area to come out and play the ball off Rogers' pass, leaving the net wide open as the ball bounced in.
Feeling the wave of momentum, the WolfPack surged forward and created another scoring opportunity in the 42' when sophomore
Geo Prado sent a pass towards the penalty area and fellow second year
Junior Guerrero. The forward from Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, headed a pass backwards through two defenders and found freshman
Josh Kiltz breaking towards the net. Kiltz, a midfielder from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, used his right foot to tap the ball in mid-air towards the right post and past the GK for a two-goal advantage. The goal is his fifth of the season.Â
Madison College nearly went ahead 3-0 in the second half when Rogers lined up a penalty kick in the 56'. The low kick caromed off the bottom of the left post to keep it 2-0, which was good enough for Coventry. The goalkeeper from Barcelona, Spain, has not allowed a postseason goal in 270 consecutive minutes and now boasts seven clean sheets this season. He currently owns a 0.69 goals against average that ranks fifth in the country.
Madison College racked up a 13-8 edge in total shots and a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal, as well as a lopsided 11-1 differential in corner kicks en route to their first region championship in 17 years.
The win over the Trojans is the second this season, as well as the first in three head-to-head postseason meetings. Triton College still leads the all-time series by a 24-9-1 margin.Â
