Madison College takes down Samsons en route to third straight win

33-point victory keeps WolfPack unbeaten heading into home opener

WISCONSIN DELLS, WISC. - The Madison College men's basketball team completed a season-opening three-game swing away from home with a 99-66 victory over Gogebic Community College on Friday at JustAGame Fieldhouse. Sophomore Noah Compan led the way with 15 points as 14 different players scored for the WolfPack in their third consecutive win. The decision broke a tie in the all-time series with the Samson, which the Pack now leads 21-20.

Back-to-back three-pointers by freshman Carter Sullivan and sophomore Carson McCormick put Madison College ahead early, and they eventually owned a 16-6 lead just over four minutes into the game. An 8-0 run midway through the half was keyed by consecutive baskets from Ryen Jones. The advantage grew to as high as 25 in the first half when Jackson Bertagnoli scored to make it 46-21.

The WolfPack led 50-28 at halftime, and despite a couple of early buckets by Gogebic Community College (1-2) to open the second half and bring the differential under 20, Madison responded with an 11-0 surge to push the score to 63-33. The Samsons were able to close the gap to 22 points with about seven minutes to play; however, Compan knocked down a three-pointer and completed an and-1 situation as part of another 8-0 burst.

Compan, a native of La Crosse, Wisconsin, produced a career-best 15 points and four rebounds off the bench. Fellow second year transfer Braylen Blue added 13 points as he made three of the team's eight shots from beyond the arc.

Sullivan, Jones, and Kaden Coppage each poured in ten points, with Jones leading the team with seven rebounds, followed by six boards from Sullivan. Jones also matched Jevon Campbell for team-high honors with three assists.

Madison College made 40 of 75 (53%) field goal tries to shoot better than 50% for the second time in three games. They were 8 of 26 (30%) from distance and 11 of 16 (68%) at the stripe. The Pack also racked up a 41-28 edge in rebounding and committed seven less turnovers. Additionally, the WolfPack scored a 54-34 discrepancy in points in the paint and a 64-36 lead in bench points.
