MADISON, WISC. - Wednesday nights Region 4 men's soccer match between Rock Valley College and Madison College may have ended without any goals; however, the 0-0 draw was not without dramatic moments and remarkable plays. The season's first draw for their WolfPack marked the team's fourth consecutive shutout performance and extended a scoreless minutes streak by the team's goalkeeping corps to 367 minutes.
Freshman
Victor Dalum was credited with four saves over his 90 minutes in net, pushing his personal scoreless minutes streak to 277 as he becomes the fourth player in program history to record three consecutive shutouts. The native of Odense, Denmark, is one shutout away from matching the school record with four straight matches, set by Juan Martinez-Perez during the 2016 season.
Madison College was the aggressor early as freshmen João Forte and
Rodrigo Lasso put shots on goal in the game's first 15 minutes. Both were denied by Alyas Fritz, the Golden Eagles second year goalkeeper who also saw three more shots narrowly miss high and wide throughout the rest of the first half.
Forte, a Sao Paulo, Brazil, native, came up empty against Fritz again in the game's 55' as the Pack continued to put pressure on the RVC defense. The WolfPack's final shot on goal came from first year forward Hudson Nielson in the 63' and resulted in the fourth save for Rock Valley College (3-1-3).
After the Golden Eagles recorded their first shot on goal in the 66', Madison College was assessed a red card and would finish the match a man down. During the final 24 minutes, Dalum came up huge with three more saves to keep the match knotted at 0-0, including a sprawling deflection with his right hand in the 72' and a sliding redirect of a one-on-one situation in the 76'.
For the full 90, Rock Valley College held a small 8-7 edge in total shots, while both teams amassed four shots on goal. The WolfPack were able to generate a 6-1 lead in corner kicks.
