#24 WolfPack sweeps away Wolves, Trojans at JJC Triangular

McHugh nearly matches program record with ten aces in finale

JOLIET, ILL. - The Madison College women's volleyball team ran their win streak to seven consecutive matches with a pair of sweeps over Region 4 opponents on Friday at the Joliet Junior College Triangular. The WolfPack, ranked #24 in the latest NJCAA Division II Poll, took down the host Wolves, as well as Triton College, by identical 3-0 scores to improve to 5-0 in Region 4 competition. Sophomore Addyson McHugh nearly tied a program record in the day's final match when she served up ten aces.

Match #1: #24 Madison College 3, Joliet Junior College 0 (25-14, 26-24, 25-19)

The WolfPack had the offense rolling in the day's first match, pounding out double-digit kills in each set. Following 11 kills and an impressive .348 attack percentage in the opening set, the Pack struggled with nine attack errors opposite 13 kills in the second set, which required extra points to decide. The third and final set produced a match-high 14 kills and .367 efficiency.

Madison College finished with 38 kills and hit at a .237 clip, while also generating six aces, eight blocks, and 45 digs. 

Second year outside hitter/middle blocker Courtney Gorum led the charge with 13 kills and a .279 percentage on 29 attempts. Freshman Bella Vitaioli was second with nine kills, while sophomore Addyson McHugh added eight kills.

The setter tandem of Tricia Klum and Brooke Anderson each finished with 19 assists, matching a career-best for the latter. 

Libero MacKenzie Thom had nine digs, tying her with McHugh for team-high honors. The Jefferson, Wisconsin, native also had four of the team's six aces.

Freshman MaKayla Weisner led the defensive effort at the net with three blocks.

Madison College is now 27-4 all-time against JJC (7-12).

Match #2: #24 Madison College 3, Triton College 0 (25-22, 26-9, 25-18)

The WolfPack service game took center stage for the next match, with 18 aces marking the third most in a match this season. Sophomore outside/right side hitter Addyson McHugh amassed ten aces, becoming the fifth player in school history to reach that mark and falling one ace shy of tying the record. The career-best total for McHugh was followed by a career-high four aces from freshman setter Tricia Klum.

The day's second match yielded just 26 kills over three sets, with a match-high ten kills coming in the third set for the WolfPack, who hit .350 in that final set. Courtney Gorum and McHugh both reached double-figures in kills. Gorum, a Chesapeake, Virginia, native, tallied a dozen kills and a .474 attack percentage, while McHugh, a native of Spring Grove, Minnesota, hit at a .226 efficiency en route to ten kills. The ten kills and ten aces give McHugh her second double-double of the season. She also led the team in digs with seven.

Klum racked up ten assists. 

The WoflPack have won 24 straight matches going back to 2009 against the Trojans (3-9), and are 24-4 all-time.

Madison College (8-2) will welcome eight teams to H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium on Friday, September 20 and Saturday, September 21 for the Madison College Tournament. The WolfPack will square off with Lincoln Land Community College (6-6) at noon on Friday, followed by a match against Spoon River College (9-10) at approximately 4:00 p.m. Saturday's slate opens with an 11:00 a.m. match with 11th-ranked Illinois Central College (8-6) and the concludes at 3:00 p.m. with a match against 8th-ranked Iowa Central Community College (11-2). Madison College is 0-4 against the Loggers, 1-0 against the Snappers and Cougars, and 2-2 when playing the Tritons. 

The tournament field also includes Blackhawk Technical College, Lakeland University JV, and Milwaukee Area Technical College,
