UPDATED (8/8/24) - The Madison College Athletics Department enjoyed another highly successful year academically in 2023-24. The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) announced that 40 Madison College student-athletes were named
NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Award winners. This year's group also includes two new WolfPack records with a dozen student-athletes earning a perfect 4.00 over the course of two semesters and five teams receiving NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year status. A dozen Madison College Esports student-athletes received NJCAAE Academic Awards after posting GPA's of 3.50 or better during their competitive semesters.
By earning a 3.60 or better grade point average over two semesters, 40 student-athletes found their names on the
NJCAA's Academic Student-Athlete Award list. Seven Madison College varsity sports teams are represented on the list, led by the WolfPack women's soccer and softball teams with ten award winners each. They were followed by baseball with eight, women's volleyball with seven, men's soccer and women's basketball with four, and golf with one. Madison College Athletics saw an impressive 12 student-athletes pull off a perfect 4.00 GPA for the year, with three doing so while competing for multiple teams. Ten additional student-athletes received second team accolades and 18 more earned third team distinctions.
The
NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year awards are to teams that produce a cumulative 3.00 GPA or better, and in 2023-24, the WolfPack saw five teams accomplish the combined academic effort. The women's basketball team yielded the top GPA of any Madison College team with a 3.65. Women's volleyball (3.51), softball (3.48), women's soccer (3.36), and baseball (3.17) were also recognized.
Madison College also featured 76
Region 4 Academic All-Region Award winners over the course of the last two semesters. Those student-athletes were able to achieve a 3.00 or better grade point average with a minimum of 12 credits passed in a semester.
As the second year student-athletes with the highest individual cumulative grade point averages,
Ryan Karst (baseball) and Ethan Transue (Esports) were named the
Madison College Top Female and Male Scholar Athletes, respectively. They were each honored at the
The Wolfie Awards in April.
The list of academic award winners grew in 2023-24. College Sports Communicators (CSC) named 13 WolfPack sophomore student-athletes as Academic All-District based earning a cumulative grade point average of 3.60 or higher and meeting specific participation numbers specific to their sport.
Michael Carpenter of Madison College baseball was the lone recipient of a CSC Academic All-America award, receiving first team accolades for his work in the classroom and on the field. And ten WolfPack softball student-athletes earned 2023-24 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. (Press Releases:
