WEST ALLIS, WISC. - The Madison College softball team was swept in a Region 4 doubleheader for just the second time this season after dropping a pair of games Tuesday against in-state rival Bryant & Stratton College. The Bobcats, who are ranked #15 in the latest
NJCAA Division II Poll, shut out the WolfPack 7-0 in the opener before pulling away late for a 13-3 win in five innings in the finale. The Pack still leads the all-time series by a 10-5 tally going back to 2018.
Game #1: #15 Bryant & Stratton College 7, Madison College 0
The host Bobcats were able to secure an early lead in the first game, following a leadoff strikeout by starter
Kendall Weik with a solo home run to center on the very next pitch. Bryant & Stratton College tacked on four more runs thanks to two more homers in the third inning. A pair of two-run blasts to left field made it a five-run deficit for the WolfPack.
Madison College registered three hits in the top of the fourth; however, they left a pair stranded when
Madison Coubal went down swinging. Coubal suffered the same fate two innings later when she struck out to end the top of the sixth with two runners aboard.
The Bobcats added two more runs in their half of the sixth, which opened with back-to-back doubles.
Freshman
Brooke Steinhorst was the lone WolfPack bat with multiple hits as the Poynette, Wisconsin, native went 2 for 3. Five others registered one hit.
Weik (9-3) took the loss, snapping a three-game win streak for the first year arm. She was tagged for five earned runs on eight hits and two walks, while also striking out four in her three innings. Steinhorst took over for 3.0 innings of her own, resulting in two earned runs on two hits and a walk.
Game #2: #15 Bryant & Stratton College 13, Madison College 3 (5 innings)
One massive inning was the difference in the second game of the day as Bryant & Stratton College (26-3) broke open a 2-2 game with an 11-run third inning. The WolfPack got the home run ball going early in the second game when sophomore
Jenna Redders smashed a two-out, two-run homer to left in the first inning for a 2-0 lead.
The two run advantage went away in the bottom of the second as the Bobcats tied it up on three singles and a walk. An inning later, the home team exploded for eight hits and took advantage of four walks to score all 11 runs with two outs on the scoreboard. A grand slam got the big inning jump started, and a two-run home run two batters later made it 8-2. After the bases were loaded again, BSC scored on a walk to force in a run, a wild pitch, and a run-scoring single to take a 13-2 edge into the fourth.
Brooke Anderson lifted a sacrifice fly to left in the top of the fourth to allow Redders to tag up from third to finish out the scoring.
Redders, a Middleton, Wisconsin, native, was 2 for 2 with her second career home run. She drove in two runs and scored two more.
Madison Coubal also had two hits in the game.
Mackenna Schultz tallied a hit and a run scored.
Brooke Steinhorst (6-4) worked 2.2 innings and was credited with 11 earned run on ten hits and three walks. She struck out three batters before
Ella Wyskochil took over for the final 1.1 innings. Wyskochil gave up two earned runs on a hit and two base on balls, to go along with one K.
