SOUTH HOLLAND, ILL. - The Madison College men's basketball team made their first appearance in the
NJCAA Region 4 Division II Tournament on Thursday, however, their debut was short-lived with a 101-59 loss at South Suburban College. The #16-seed WolfPack saw three players score in double-figures against the top-seeded Bulldogs, who defeated the Pack for the second time in 16 days. The loss closes the season with a 9-18 record.
Freshman
Tyler Mitchell led the offensive effort with a dozen points on 3 of 12 shooting and a perfect 6 for 6 effort at the free throw line. The Dallas, Texas, native, reached ten or more points for the 21st time this season and finishes the year with a 13.6 scoring average.
Sophomore
Monte Mayberry and freshman
Armon Freeman, both natives of Duluth, Minnesota, contributed ten points each. Mayberry, a transfer from Cardinal Stritch University, sank two 3-pointers, while Freeman came off the bench to make all four of his field goal attempts and two free throws.Â
Second year wing
Deante Luster, who entered the game averaging 23.9 points per game this season, was limited to seven points and a team-leading seven rebounds. He finishes his Madison College career with 948 points and ranks ninth in program history.
For the game, Madison College shot 43% (18-42) overall and was 27% (3-11) from long range, while also converting 77% (20-26) from the charity stripe. The WolfPack turned the ball over a season-high 28 times.
The all-time series between the two teams now stands at 3-1 in favor of SSC.
