MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College women's basketball team was unable to avenge a loss from January as they suffered a 92-41 setback Thursday night at
H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium in the penultimate game of the 2023-24 season. Sophomore
Kayla Staveness was the top scorer for the WolfPack, who saw all five players score in the game. The
#3-ranked Golden Eagles sweep of the regular season series pushes their lead in the all-time series to 30-18.
Rock Valley College (27-0) scored the game's first seven points before Staveness sank a pair of free throws, and the lead grew to 14-2 before the WolfPack scored their first field goal of the game on a
Kaylee Anzalone layup with 4:54 to play in the opening quarter. She converted another within the same minute to account for the team's only baskets as the first ten minutes closed with a 28-8 differential. Anzalone and fellow sophomore
Tazhia Aune each sank a three-pointer early in the second quarter, which closed on a 17-0 run for RVC.
Madison College found more of its scoring touch in the second half, and that especially went for Staveness. The 5'3" guard drilled two 3-pointers in the third quarter, which also saw freshman
Mirella Zielke tally two baskets to help the Pack put up 14 points. Zielke, an Edgerton, Wisconsin, native, added another successful jumper in the fourth quarter. Staveness then registered nine of the team's final 11 points before the final horn sounded.
Staveness posted 21 points on 5 of 21 shooting with two hits from long range and a perfect 9 for 9 effort at the free throw line. She also secured a team-leading five rebounds. The Rio, Wisconsin, native is averaging 17.3 points per game and now boasts nine games of 20 points or more.
Anzalone finished with nine points, three rebounds, and a game-high seven assists. Zielke established a career-high with six points, to go along with five boards and two steals.

Madison College (1-23) will play the final game of the 2023-24 season on Tuesday, February 20 against in-state rival Milwaukee Area Technical College (15-8). The WolfPack own a 75-17 lead in the all-time series, however, the Stormers have won the last three get-togethers. Game time inside
