Dominating effort over South Suburban finishes Region 4, home schedule for #25 WolfPack

Three-set sweep followed Sophomore Night celebration in regular season home finale

MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College women's volleyball team completed the Region 4 and home portions for the 2024 regular season schedule Monday night, earning a 3-0 sweep over visiting South Suburban College inside H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. The WolfPack, who earlier in the day remained ranked #25 in the latest NJCAA Division II Poll, served up 14 aces - their second-highest mark in a three-set match this season - en route to improving their all-time record over the Bulldogs to 3-0, with all three wins coming over the past four years. Prior to first serve, Madison College Athletics recognized the Sophomore Class of 2024, which includes Faith Radecke, Brooke Anderson, MacKenzie Thom, Amber Horn, Addyson McHugh, Courtney Gorum, and Alexandria Smith. They also presented Gorum with a game ball in recognition of her record-breaking performance last week to become the program's all-time leader in kills.

Madison College started fast by earning the first five points of the match, two of which came as a result of successful attacks by freshman Kate Howe. Consecutive Gorum kills and back-to-back aces by Anderson were part of a 5-0 run later in the set that gave the Pack a 20-9 advantage as they cruised to the opening set win.

An early four-point surge in the second set gave the WolfPack an 8-4 edge. Leading 15-9 later in the set, the home team put together five consecutive points as part of a larger 10-2 closing push.

In the third set, the Pack broke a 3-3 tie by taking nine of the next 13 points for a 12-4 differential. McHugh put the match away using a block and two kills to help generate five straight points after leading 20-14.

Gorum, a native of Chesapeake, Virginia, posted nine kills and an season-best .533 attack percentage, to go along with an ace and a team-leading dozen digs.

McHugh, a Spring Grove, Minnesota, native, was right behind Gorum with eight kills, two aces, two blocks, and eight digs. MaKayla Weisner and Howe each had four kills.

Setters Anderson and Tricia Klum registered 15 and 12 assists, respectively. Anderson, who also plays softball for the WolfPack, added three aces.

The impressive serving night was keyed by Radecke, as the Stoughton, Wisconsin, native racked up four aces for the second time this season. Thom was won of two players with three aces, while collecting seven digs. Horn was tops with three blocks.

The WolfPack finished with 29 kills, six blocks, and 40 digs.
