MILWAUKEE, WISC. - A 19-8 closing stretch propelled Milwaukee Area Technical College to a Region 4 win over Madison College on Thursday night inside Alverno College's Reiman Gymnasium. Sophomore
Deante Luster was one of three players to score in double-figures for the WolfPack, who saw the Stormers finish with advantages of plus-nine in second chance points and plus-14 in points int the paint. MATC-Milwaukee, the defending NJCAA Division II national champions and #9-ranked team in the latest NJCAA Poll, own a nine-game win streak in the head-to-head series that sits at 64-57 in favor of the Pack.
After both teams rattled off seven-point runs to start the game, Milwaukee Area Technical College (15-3) maintained a slim one or two possession lead until Luster drained a three-pointer with 5:28 left in the half to give the WolfPack a 36-34 lead. The advantage was short-lived thanks to a four-point play on the next possesion, and Milwaukee Tech finished the half with a 51-44 lead.
Madison College narrowed the deficit to two points on several occasions early in the second half, and used a
Tyler Mitchell jumper to make it 68-66 with about a dozen minutes to play. The Stormers responded with a 9-0 run to take a double-digit lead, which continued to grow during the closing minutes as they tallied 19 of the game's final 27 points.
Luster finished 10 of 25 with three 3-pointers and three free throws en route to leading the team with 26 points and four assists. The second year wing has produced 20 or more points in five consecutive games.
Guards
Tyler Mitchell and
Monte Mayberry each registered 17 points in the game. Mitchell, a freshman, was 8 for 20 overall with a free throw, while Mayberry, a sophomore transfer from Cardinal Stritch University, knocked down a career-high five 3-pointers as part of a 6 for 9 day from the field. Mayberry, a former Northwestern HS athlete, was tops on the glass for the Pack with a season-best eight.
Madison College sank nine shots from beyond the arc for the second consecutive game.

Madison College (5-10) will try to snap a six-game losing streak on Saturday, January 20 against Black Hawk College (10-6). The Braves won the only other prior meeting between the two programs back in 2015-16. The WolfPack will celebrate Sophomore Day prior to tip off with recognition of its three-member Class of 2024.
