(UPDATED: 8/29/23) The Madison College Athletics Department enjoyed another highly-successful year academically in 2022-23. The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the NJCAAE announced that 37 Madison College student-athletes were named
NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Award winners. This year's group also includes two WolfPack student-athletes who earned a perfect 4.00 over the course of two semesters, and four teams receiving NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year status. Even more Madison College Esports student-athletes added their names to the list of academic award winners with 11 NJCAAE Academic Award recipients.
By earning a 3.60 or better grade point average over two semesters, 26 student-athletes found their names on the
NJCAA's Academic Student-Athlete Award list. All eight Madison College varsity sports teams are represented on the list, led by the WolfPack baseball team with eight award winners. They were followed by softball and women's soccer with four, and men's soccer and women's volleyball with three. Madison College Atlhetics saw a pair of student-athletes pull off the impressive feat of a perfect 4.00 GPA.
Gabby Hack (women's volleyball) and
Caeben Schomber (men's soccer) each earned NJCAA All-Academic First Team, while 11 others received second team accolades and 13 more earned third team distinctions. The NJCAAE awards required a 3.50 or better.
The
NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year awards are to teams that produce a cumulative 3.00 GPA or better, and in 2022-23, the WolfPack saw four teams accomplish the combined academic effort. The women's volleyball team yielded the top GPA of any Madison College team with a 3.36. Meanwhile, golf (3.05), women's soccer (3.03), and baseball (3.00) were all recognized for the second consecutive year.
Madison College also featured 78
North Central Community College Conference (N4C) Academic All-Conference Award winners over the course of the last two semesters. Those student-athletes were able to achieve a 3.00 or better grade point average with a minimum of 12 credits passed in a semester.
As the second year student-athletes with the highest individual cumulative grade point averages,
Lexi Kulow (women's soccer) and
David Vazquez Rojas (Esports) were named the
Madison College Top Female and Male Scholar Athletes, respectively. They were each honored at the
The Wolfie Awards in April.
Additionally, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association recognized six Madison College softball student-athletes as
2023 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes, which includes
Makenna Gish,
Sammy Nelson,
