SUGAR GROVE, ILL. - The Madison College softball team saw a brief four-game win streak come to a halt Saturday with a pair of road losses against Region 4 opponent Waubonsee Community College. Despite out-hitting the Chiefs in the opener, the WolfPack lost 4-1 before being run-ruled in the nightcap by a 13-3 final. The Pack still leads the all-time series by a 17-13 margin, but have dropped three of the last four meetings.
Game #1: Waubonsee Community College 4, Madison College 1
A first inning home run for the Chiefs was just about all the home team needed to acquire the game one win. The two-run homer off starter
Hannah Aldrich put the WolfPack behind from start, a deficit that grew to 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth with two more runs on two hits, three free passes, and a sac fly.
Madison College had some chances to score, including the first and fifth innings when they left two runners on each time. A leadoff double by
Sophie Rivera in the fifth set the stage for a potential comeback, and River did score on a
Kiana Patterson single to left. The threat ended there as the next two batters failed to reach and left two runners aboard one more time.
The WolfPack did produce an 8-6 advantage in hits, led by two base knocks from freshman
Karis Paulson. Rivera finished with a hit and a run scored.Â
Aldrich (3-3) suffered the loss after giving up four runs on five hits and four free passes in her four innings in the circle. She struck out one, as did
Claire Smedema over the final two, scoreless innings. Smedema gave up a hit and two walks.
Game #2: Waubonsee Community College 13, Madison College 3
The day's second game got out of hand early with Waubonsee scoring multiple runs in each of the first four innings. They opened with two runs on three hits and an error in the first, and followed with six runs in a second inning that featured five hits, two of which were two-run homers.
The WolfPack got on the scoreboard in the third with two runs.
Karis Paulson drove in
Jenna Redders with a double, and
Sophie Rivera's triple brought Paulson in. Three hits and an error in the home half brought the differential to 11-2 before the Pack made it an eight-run contest with a RBI double from Redders to plate
Madison Coubal. Four more WCC hits and a walk added two additional runs and gave the Chiefs the run-rule victory.
Six different players tallied a hit for Madison, led by Paulson and Redders. The freshmen duo each had an extra base hit, a run scored, and a run batted in.
Starter
Ella Wyskochil (0-3) tossed 1.2 innings and allowed eight total runs, two of which were earned. They came as a result of eight hits.
Addison Warner worked the final 2.1 innings and was tagged for five runs with one unearned on seven hits and a walk. Warner did fan three batters.
