MILWAUKEE, WISC. - The final North Central Community College Conference game of the 2022-23 season saw the Madison College men's basketball team fall 87-68 to in-state rival Milwaukee Area Technical College, who closed out a third consecutive N4C championship. Sophomore
Keith Hoffman led three double-digit scorers and continued to add to his career totals. The Stormers, ranked #6 in the
NJCAA Division II Poll, swept the regular season series and extended their win streak over the WolfPack to eight straight. Madison College continues to lead the all-time series by a 64-56 tally.
Milwaukee Area Technical College (24-4, 8-0) scored 11 of the game's first 13 points before the competitive balance began to even out. Trailing 25-16 midway through the first half, Madison College tallied five consecutive points to cut the deficit to four, however, an 11-2 surge from the Stormers returned the differential to double-digits and MATC-Milwaukee went on to take a 50-35 advantage into halftime.
Facing a tall order, the WolfPack battled hard in the second half, where they turned a
Deante Luster jumper with 12:32 to play into an 8-0 run to trimmed the margin to just four at 60-56 with 11 minutes remaining. Milwaukee Tech answered with eight straight of their own and never allowed their lead to go under ten for the remainder of the game.
Two days after becoming the first player in program history to reach 900 points and 450 rebounds in his career at Madison College, Hoffman dropped in 19 points and grabbed six boards to bring his totals to 937 points and 468 rebounds, the latter of which moves him into fifth in school history. Hoffman struggled from the field, making 8 of 23 shots and missing all five of his three-point tries, but did convert 3 of 4 free throws.
Luster, a former Sun Prairie HS athlete, was 9 of 19 overall en route to 18 points and a team-high eight rebounds. The first year guard/forward is averaging 18.1 points over the last nine games.
Sophomore
Telin Porter came off the bench to add ten points on 3 of 5 shooting and a perfect 4 for 4 at the charity stripe. He also racked up a team-best four steals and three assists, to go along with two boards.
Madison College finished 40% (29-72) overall, 10% (2-19) from three-point range, and 57% (8-14) at the free throw line, their third-lowest percentage at the stripe of the season and worst since a 55% effort on December 3. The WolfPack also established a new season-best with just eight turnovers in the game, which also translated into a 20-11 lead in points off turnovers. The Pack also posted a 46-36 edge in points in the paint, while the Stormers outrebounded their guests by a 50-34 margin and scored a 13-8 advantage in second chance points.
