MALTA, ILL. - The Madison College men's basketball team never during Saturday's Region 4 road trip to Kishwaukee College, and returned home following a 74-57 loss. Freshman
Tyler Mitchell led the WolfPack in scoring, however, the team's lowest scoring output of the season thus far resulted in their fourth setback in the past six games. The loss also ends a seven-game win streak against the Kougars, who lead the all-time series by a 16-9 count.
Kishwaukee College (4-7) opened the game with seven straight points before Mitchell put the WolfPack on the scoreboard with a driving layup nearly three minutes in. Madison College chipped away and narrowed the gap to four after back-to-back buckets from
Deante Luster and Mitchell beyond the mid-point of the half, and again roughly 90 seconds later as
Antoine Coleman scored from in the paint. Still a four-point game at 25-21 entering the final four minutes of the half, the Kougars mounted a quick 8-2 surge to push the advantage into double-digits. The WolfPack answered right back with a 7-0 run capped by
Peter Gustafson's three-pointer to make it 33-30 before the Kougars took a 39-32 differential into the locker room.
An early three-pointer by Kishwaukee College to start the second half was answered by another Coleman jumper to pull the WolfPack within eight, however, it would prove to be the last time the deficit was inside of ten points. The Kougars scored the next seven points and would eventually lead by as much as 21 in the final minutes.
Mitchell posted 16 points on 8 of 12 shooting, to go along with three rebounds, three assists, and two steals. The guard from Dallas, Texas, has scored ten or more points in four straight games.
Luster, a second year wing from Columbia, South Carolina, came off the bench to contribute 15 points, four rebounds, four steals, and three assists. He was 5 of 12 from the floor and 5 for 7 at the free throw line.
Freshman
Justin Pleasant added ten points and five rebounds. Fellow first year
Romelle Bell did not score, but did pack the Pack with six boards and four helpers.
Madison College held narrow advantages in points in the paint (34-32), second chance points (10-8), and points off turnovers (21-15), while the Kougars made five additional three-pointers and seven more free throws.
