GLEN ELLYN, ILL. - The Madison College women's soccer team closed out the 2023 regular season with a come-from-behind road win over Region 4 foe College of DuPage, snapping a four-match non-winning streak in the process. The WolfPack used goals by
Atziry Ocampo and
Kierstin McHugh to overcome an early one-goal deficit in the final match of the regular season, giving them an 8-3-3 record. The win also cuts into the Chaparrals lead in the all-time series, which now stands at 10-7-2.
College of DuPage (5-10-1) was on the attack early, and registered three shots on goal in the game's first 14 minutes. The third shot was able to get past WolfPack goalkeeper
Morgan Thompson to give COD a 1-0 advantage. The sophomore would hold her ground the remainder of the half, recording all five of her saves. Thompson did not face a single shot on goal in the second half.
Still down 1-0 to start the second half, Madison College hit the equalizer in the 49' as
Atziry Ocampo, a freshman forward from Monroe, Wisconsin, found the back of the net for the fifth time this season and the third time in the last five outings.
The match turned in the 69' when the WolfPack was awarded a penalty kick and sophomore
Kierstin McHugh converted for her team-leading seventh goal this season.
Madison College did put two more shots on goal before the match reached full time, and finished with an 11-7 edge in total shots. Both teams tallied six shots on goal.
Sophomore transfer
