KISHWAUKEE, ILL. - With twenty minutes left to play in Wednesday's road men's soccer match, Madison College appeared headed for its first loss of the season. Before the next ten minutes were over, the WolfPack had assumed a 4-3 lead and held on to defeat Kishwaukee College in a Region 4 match that sent the Pack to a third straight win to start the season. Freshmen
Gabe Voung and
Dominick Ramirez accounted for all four of the goals, with the latter scoring his over a five minute stretch to rally Madison College to its first-ever win over the Kougars, who lead the all-time series by a 7-1-2 mark.
Both team tallied their first goal of the match in the 24' with Kishwaukee College (0-1) doing so less 25 seconds before Madison College. Not long after the kickoff from the Kougars goal, sophomore midfielder
Caeben Schomber set up first year forward
Gabe Voung for the equalizer. Voung, a Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, native, wasted little time following up his scoring strike with another one, this time converting an
Angel Gongora pass in the 29' to beat the opposing goalkeeper and give the Pack a 2-1 lead.
The one-goal advantage held into the second half when Kishwaukee College scored goals against WolfPack 'keeper
Phil McCloskey in the 61' and 70'. That set the stage for an epic comeback with Ramirez at the forefront. The midfielder from Madison, Wisconsin, drilled a penalty kick in the 76' to tie the game for the fourth time. Another Kougars foul in the 80' put Ramirez back in focus with yet another penalty kick, and he delivered to put the WolfPack on top for good. Kishwaukee College fired off two more shots over the remainder of the match, one of which was saved by McCloskey and the other was blocked to preserve the victory.
The homestanding Kougars amassed a 22-19 edge in total shots and a 16-9 lead in shots on goal. Voung and Ramirez were tops on the WolfPack with five total shots and three shots on goal each. For Voung, it's his second consecutive two-goal effort and gives him a team-best four goals on the season.
Adriano Ponte and
Tomas Garcia each produced two total shots, with both of Ponte's being on goal.
McCloskey was credited with 13 saves, giving him double-digit saves in all three matches so far this season. The three goals allowed are the first given up by the DeForest, Wisconsin, native after 203 consecutive scoreless minutes and back-to-back shutouts.
The two teams combined for 11 cautions and ejections, including three total red cards.
