Madison College golf, softball, baseball, women's soccer earn NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year awards

The Madison College Athletics Department enjoyed another highly-successful year academically in 2021-22. The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) announced Monday that 29 Madison College student-athletes were named NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Award winners, with another 20 Esports student-athletes receiving NJCAAE All-Academic accolades. This year's group also includes a school-record eight WolfPack student-athletes who earned a perfect 4.00 over the course of two semesters, and four teams receiving NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year status.

By earning a 3.60 or better grade point average over two semesters, 29 student-athletes found their names on the NJCAA's Academic Student-Athlete Award list. All nine of the Madison College varsity sports teams are represented on the list, led by the WolfPack softball team with nine award winners. They were followed by baseball with seven, and women's soccer with five. The 20 NJCAAE All-Academic recipients maintained a 3.50 GPA or better over two full semesters. Breaking the one-year old school-record of five student-athletes boasting a perfect 4.0 GPA's, Madison College Atlhetics saw eight student-athletes pull off the feat in 2021-22. Casey Fountain (softball), Jadyn Holman (women's volleyball), Grace Madeiros (softball), Sammy Nelson (softball), Gabe O'Brien (baseball), Trista Ripp (softball), Megzie Sass-Council (Esports), and Emma Strieker (women's soccer) all earned NJCAA All-Academic First Team, with Holman and Streiker making it two consecutive years with perfect GPA's. Fourteen others received second team accolades, with 8 more earning third team distinctions.

The NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year awards are to teams that produce a 3.00 GPA or better, and in 2021-22, the WolfPack saw four teams accomplish the combined academic effort. The golf team yielded the top GPA of any Madison College team with a 3.23, followed narrowly by softball at 3.20. Baseball and women's soccer were also recognized with combined GPA's of 3.01 and 3.00, respectively.

Madison College also featured 78 North Central Community College Conference (N4C) Academic All-Conference Award winners over the course of the last two semesters. Those student-athletes were able to achieve a 3.00 or better grade point average with a minimum of 12 credits passed in a semester.

As the second year student-athletes with the highest individual cumulative grade point averages, Zach Storbakken (baseball) and Emma Strieker (women's soccer) were named the Madison College Top Female and Male Scholar Athletes for the second consecutive year.
