MILWAUKEE, WISC. - Freshman
Keith Hoffman and the Madison College men's basketball team had their three-point stroke working Thursday night against rival Milwaukee Area Technical College, however, it was not enough in a 99-78 loss in a North Central Community College Conference and Region 4 contest played at Alverno College. Hoffman buried six shots from beyond the arc to help the WolfPack establish a new season-high for a single game with 11. The
#9-ranked Stormers has swept the regular season series in three consecutive seasons and narrowed the WolfPack lead in the all-time series to 64-54.
Madison College matched the rival Stormers shot-for-shot to start, using Hoffman's second three-pointer of the game to take a 19-18 lead almost six minutes into the first half. Milwaukee Area Technical College (21-3, 6-1) answered with a 13-3 surge that built a nine-point lead for the home team. The WolfPack were not doing away easily, as a long-range shots from Hoffman and
Tyler Haak started another push to eventually even the score at 35-35, but it was MATC-Milwaukee ending the half with 14 of the next 24 points to lead 49-40. The differential, though still just ten points midway through the second half, grew substantially in the final ten minutes with the home team outscoring the 'Pack by a 29-18 margin.
Hoffman, a 6'8" forward from Stevens Point, Wisconsin, knocked down 6 of 10 shots from three-point range as part of an 8 for 13 effort overall to score 22 points. His ten rebounds give Hoffman eight double-doubles on the season.
Trevon Liggins was perfect from the floor by hitting all six of his shots, including a pair of three-pointers, to tally 14 points and six rebounds. The second year guard has now reached double-figures in four straight games. Fellow sophomore
Arrion Curothers rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points.
Thursday marked the fourth game the WolfPack made ten triples, and their 52.4% effort from long range was their second-best percentage in 2021-22.
