MADISON, WISC. - A big run midway through the second half Thursday night turned a close battle into a lopsided win as Madison College defeated the Rockford University JV 95-76 inside
H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. Four players scored 15 or more points to help the WolfPack win for the fourth time in the last five games. Madison College is now 2-0 all-time against the Regents, with both games being played in Wisconsin.
Rockford University had the hot hand early, hitting six of their first eight attempts from beyond the arc and building a 32-19 lead with 10:31 left in the half. The WolfPack answered with their interior play, scoring 18 unanswered points with all of them coming from in the paint to go ahead 37-32. A quick 8-0 burst by the Regents during the final two minutes put the visitors up a basket, however, sophomore
Keith Hoffman tied the score at 48-48 with another layup to end the half.
Nearly four minutes into the second half, the Regents took a 57-56 lead on a layup, and it would be the last time they led in the game. Hoffman's layup at the other end sparked a 14-0 run to give the Pack a 70-57 advantage with roughly ten minutes to play. The differential remained in double-digits the remainder of the game, and peaked at 91-64 as the clock moved under four minutes to play.
Hoffman established a season-high with 26 points, and tallied his fourth double-double this season with 11 rebounds. The 6'8" forward/center converted 12 of 17 shots from the field with one 3-pointer and a free throw. He also had three assists, a steal, and a block.
Fellow sophomores
Cortez Telfered and
Nik Feller each scored 16 points, while freshman Deante Luster recorded career-highs of 15 points, nine rebounds, five steals, and three assists. Luster, a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has scored ten or more points in three consecutive games.
The WolfPack posted their best shooting percentage in a game since the 2017-18 season, connecting on 40 of 65 field goal attempts for a 61.5% effort. Madison College shot 66.7% on February 10, 2018, against Harper College. As a result, the Pack created a 68-30 edge in points in the paint and a 43-22 advantage in total rebounds.
