DUBUQUE, IOWA - The Madison College women's basketball team is still searching for their first win of the 2022-23 season after traveling just past the Mississippi River and taking a 74-57 setback to NCAA Division III University of Dubuque JV on Wednesday night. A slow first quarter put the WolfPack in an early hole, and allowed the Spartans to secure just their second win in six all-time meetings between the two programs.
After a pair of early baskets gave Madison College a 4-3 lead, Dubuque went on a 12-0 run and finished the first quarter with a 22-10 advantage. Seven consecutive points to open the second quarter put the WolfPack down 19, however, the visitors were able to keep the differential in the teens going into halftime at 43-29. The second half played out much like the second quarter, with Madison College unable to get back to a single-digit deficit.
Sophomore guard
Taylor Ripp paced the WolfPack with a season-best 15 points and eight rebounds. The Lodi, Wisconsin, native was 5 of 11 shooting overall, and added a three pointer and 4 of 5 free throws. The eight boards mark the third time in four games she has amassed that total. Ripp added two blocks, a steal, and an assist.
Freshman Cora Hansen was the only other double-digit scorer for the Pack, posting a dozen points for the second consecutive game. The native of La Crosse, Wisconsin, knocked down 5 of her 13 shot attempts and hit a pair of free throws, while also contributing five rebounds and two steals.
Second year guard
Reyna Knox dished out a team-best seven assists and tallied nine points.
Madison College committed 22 turnovers, eight of which came in the first quarter. They finished 22 of 63 (35%) as a team, with makes on 3 of 15 (20%) three-pointers and 10 of 25 (40%) free throws. The WolfPack did narrowly beat the Spartans in points in the paint by a 34-32 margin. Dubuque was plus-eight in points off turnovers, and owned a 22-7 edge in second chance scoring after securing a 44-30 lead in total rebounds.

Madison College (0-4) will participate in the Bay College Classic in Escanaba, Michigan, on Friday and Saturday as they complete a four-game stretch away from home. The WolfPack will open with first year program North Central Michigan College (0-2) on Friday at 1:00 p.m., and follow with a 2:00 p.m. tip off against the host Norse (1-1).
