GLEN ELLYN, ILL. - The 2022 season came to a close Thursday night for the Madison College women's volleyball team in a 3-0 sweep at the hands of the College of DuPage. The top-seeded Chaparrals, who won the North Central Community College Conference championship, took down the fourth-seeded WolfPack by scores 25-20, 25-14, 25-17 in a
NJCAA Region 4 Division III Tournament Semifinal. The loss marks the fourth consecutive season in which the Pack was unable to reach the championship match, however, first year head coach
Mallory (Dixon) Stone and her squad made significant strides with the program's first 20-win season since 2017. They finish with a 20-12 record.
Madison College struggled to find their offense throughout the match, posting just six kills in both the first and third sets. They pounded a dozen kills and hit .104 in the second set, and finished with 24 kills and a .078 attack percentage overall. The Chaparrals averaged 13.3 kills per set and hit at a .270 clip. The home team also produced a 7-3 edge in blocks, a 58-51 advantage in digs, and a narrow 10-9 lead in aces.
Freshman outside hitter
Tyra Anderson led the way with seven kills and hit at a .129 efficiency after taking a team-high 31 swings. She finishes the season as the team's leader in kills with 257. Anderson's fellow Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, native
Kendall Weisensel was right behind with six kills in the match and 256 for the season. Weisensel, a first year outside hitter/defensive specialist also had 12 digs and a team-best four aces, which gave her 83 on the year and rank her eighth in the nation.
Sophia Venne matched Weisensel with six kills and had one of the team's three blocks.
Daryn Schaefer, a freshman setter from Wisconsin Heights HS, racked up 21 assists en route to a team-high 840 for the season. She currently sits ninth in all of NJCAA Division III
Lone sophomore
Aubrie Kappes, a product of Marshall, Wisconsin, racked up 14 digs to pace the defense.
The College of DuPage (28-3), currently ranked #4 in the latestÂ
NJCAA Division III Poll, took all three matches against the WolfPack in 2022. Madison College still owns a 30-13 lead in the all-time series, and a 5-2 record in postseason meetings.
