WolfPack blocks not enough in four-set road loss at Harper College

Madison College takes season-high three-match losing streak into final weekend of regular season

PALATINE, ILL. - In two matches against Harper College this season, the Madison College women's volleyball team has amassed in impressive 30.0 blocks, however, their stalwart defense at the net was not enough in a hard-fought 3-1 road loss in North Central Community College Conference and Region 4 play. The Hawks won by sets scores of 25-21, 16-25, 25-23, 25-22 to split the regular season series with the WolfPack, and increase their narrow lead in the all-time series to 21-19. The setback marks a season-high three straight losses for the Pack heading into their final weekend of play in the regular season.

Madison College finished the match with 14.0 blocks for their fourth match this season with at least that many. They added 42 kills, a dozen aces, and 69 digs, while hitting at a .133 efficiency. Harper College (15-24, 4-4) talled 53 kills and a .252 attack percentage, to go along with six aces, four blocks, and 79 digs.

The WolfPack produced double-digit kills in the three sets they took losses in, including a match-best 13 kills and .205 percentage in the third set. Their second set win featured just eight kills and six attack errors for a .067 efficiency. 

Freshman Gabby Hack keyed the defensive effort at the net with a career-high nine blocks, becoming just the sixth player to accomplish that feat in a match in program history. The Lake Mills, Wisconsin, native also had seven kills.

Tyra Anderson was tops offensively with 11 kills on 46 attempts, while also serving up four aces. Kendall Weisensel added ten kills and 18 digs for her second consecutive double-double performance. 

Setter Daryn Schaefer posted 39 assists and 13 digs for her tenth double-double.

Defensive specialists and liberos Aubrie Kappes and Katie Wagner had 11 and ten digs, respectively.

Madison College (18-11, 2-5) will finish the 2022 regular season with the Milwaukee Area Technical College Triangular on Saturday, October 22 at Alverno College. The WolfPack will open with a 10:00 a.m. first serve against the host Stormers (13-15, 1-6) in a make-up match from October 11. The Pack swept MATC-Milwaukee on September 20, and own win streaks of 38 consecutive matches and 77 straight sets in the head-to-head series, which stands at 92-29-3. The day's second match is against another in-state foe, Bryant & Stratton College (8-13), with first serve around noon. Madison College is 5-1 against the Bobcats since 2018.
