MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College women's soccer team concluded their 2022 regular season with a narrow 1-0 home loss to Joliet Junior College on Wednesday at
Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East. The WolfPack, who earlier in the week made their debut in the
NJCAA Division III Poll at #9, entered the match having already locked up a conference championship and the top seed in the upcoming Region 4 Tournament. The loss snaps a seven-match win streak in North Central Community College Conference play, as well as a short three-match win streak over the Wolves. The all-time series now stands at 12-4-1 in favor of the Pack after the teams split their regular season series.
Freshman goalkeeper
Morgan Thompson made a save just 22 seconds into the match, as visiting Joliet Junior College (3-7, 2-2) sent an early message to the WolfPack. Thompson finished the first half with five saves to keep Madison College in the scoreless match as the offense generated just two shots on the opposing goalkeeper.
The second half played in much the same way until the 60' when the Wolves scored just a few moments after a corner kick, when Thompson's deflection of an on-coming kick trickled just inside the crossbar. Sophomores
Lexi Kulow and
Liz Foye were both turned away on the only shots on goal for Madison College after that point.
Joliet Junior College racked up a 13-9 lead in total shots and an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal. Thompson finished with seven saves and one goal allowed.
Kulow was tops for Madison College with four total shots, followed by three from
Kierstin McHugh. Both featured two shots on goal as the WolfPack were blanked for the second consecutive match.
