#12 Joliet JC too much for WolfPack in home loss

Madison College resumes N4C, Region 4 play February 1 against Harper College

MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College men's basketball team made 12th-ranked Joliet Junior College sweat out a North Central Community College Conference and Region 4 victory Thursday inside H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. The Wolves came out on top with a 95-77 decision to snap a two-game WolfPack win streak in the head-to-head series, which stands at 26-8 in favor of JJC.

Madison College held a slim 9-7 lead just over three minutes into the game when Joliet Junior College (19-2, 5-0) put together a 28-6 run that included four 3-pointers. Freshman Jeremiah Guevarra and sophomore Trevon Liggins combined for nine points in an 11-4 surge that trimmed the 20-point deficit down to 13. The first half ended with the 'Pack trailing 49-33 after a Tyler Haak basket, which set the stage for an inspired start to the second half. The home team generated a 19-10 run that culminated in a Guevarra three-pointer and a Malcolm Reed jumper with 14:23 to play. Still a nine-point differential as the second half passed the midway point, but the visiting Wolves went on a 15-4 push to take control.

Liggins, a former Milwaukee Riverside HS athlete, produced 13 points and six rebounds to lead the WolfPack. The 6'4" guard/forward with 5 for 9 with a three-pointer a two free throws en route to his fourth double-digit scoring game in the last seven outings. 

Reed, a sophomore from Barneveld, Wisconsin, and Cortez Telfered, a freshman from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, both added ten points. Reed also had a team-high three asissts, while Telfered knocked down two of the team's nine 3-pointers. He and Guevarra, who also drained two long-range shots as part of a career-best eight points, keyed a bench effort that contributed 34 points. 

Madison College registered its best shooting effort of the season, converting 39 of 59 field goal attempts for a shooting percentage of 59.3. They also led the Wolves in a second chance scoring by a 10-7 margin.

The two teams will play again in the regular season finale on February 15 in Joliet, Illinois.

Madison College (13-7, 1-3) will have the weekend off before welcoming Harper College (0-19, 0-4) to H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium on Tuesday, February 1 for a N4C and Region 4 contest. The WolfPack owns a five-game win streak and a 16-10 lead in the all-time series with the Hawks. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
