#5 Stormers pull away from WolfPack in second half

Madison College drops N4C opener, hosts #13 Rock Valley tonight

MADISON, WISC. - Facing a tough assignment in the first North Central Community College Conference game of the season, the Madison College men's basketball team fell to Milwaukee Area Technical College in the 117th all-time meeting between the two in-state rivals. The WolfPack, who was still receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Division III Poll, dropped a 98-57 decision to a Stormers team that prior to tip off had dropped back from #2 to #5 in the NJCAA Division III Poll. The all-time series still favors
the 'Pack by a 64-53 count, however, MATC-Milwaukee has won five straight.

Milwaukee Area Technical College (16-2, 1-0) got off to a fast start with a 15-4 lead in the game's first five minutes. After the differential remained around ten for most of the first half, the WolfPack used a 9-2 run to trim the deficit to 32-28 with three minutes left in the half. The Stormers answered with seven consecutive points to take an 11-point lead into the break, and carried that momentum into the second half, where they more than doubled the scoring output of the home team in the final 20 minutes. The half opened with a 17-3 surge that kick-started MATC-Milwaukee en route to a 41-point win.

Freshman Cortez Telfered came off the bench to lead the WolfPack in scoring, dropping in 16 points for his third consecutive double-digit outing. The Milwaukee, Wisconsin, native was 6 for 13 overall with a pair of three-pointers and two free throws. The 6'2" guard is averaging 13.3 points per game since joining the team at semester.

Trevon Liggins and Keith Hoffman were the only other double-digit scorers for Madison College, contributing 12 and 11 points, respectively. Liggins, another native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, made two of his three baskets from long range, and added four free throws. Hoffman was 5 for 11 with one 3-pointer, and tied with Telin Porter for the team lead in rebounds with six. Ma'Teo Holland was tops in assists with three.
