JOLIET, ILL. - The Madison College men's soccer team used a pair of first half goals to propel themselves to their first win of the season with a 3-1 victory at Joliet Junior College on Wednesday. The win comes in the first North Central Community College Conference match of the season, and also gives first year head coach
Tim Bruner his first collegiate victory. The WolfPack have won or tied the Trojans in nine consecutive meetings and now boast a 13-12-1 record in the all-time series.
After being held scoreless in their season opener just four days prior, Madison College wasted little time producing the season's first goal. Sophomores
Jonas Luskey Sanders and
Matthew Ruggiero combined for the successful attack as Luskey Sanders set up Ruggiero for his first goal of the year and fourth of his career in the 9'. The WolfPack extended their lead with a 32' goal from freshman forward
Erick Antimo, who took a pass from fellow forward
Lucas Martin-Heid and buried a shot in the back of the net for his first career goal.
The score remained 2-0 as the second half picked up steam, and in the 54', Joliet Junior College (1-2, 0-1) trimmed their deficit in half with a goal against sophomore goalkeeper
Sebastian Varela. The visiting WolfPack were able to regain their two-goal advantage with a little over ten minutes remaining. First year midfielder
Adrian Henkovic registered his first collegiate goal to make it 3-1. The scoring strike came off an assist from freshman
Adriano Ponte.
Madison College dominated the ball throughout the match and out-shot the Wolves by a 17-4 margin and posted a 9-1 lead in shots on goal. WolfPack 'keeper
Sullivan Schwitters and Varela combined to allow one goal and did not register a single save.
