MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College women's soccer team was unable to make it two straight wins to start the 2021 season after taking a 5-1 loss to Triton College in the home opener Saturday at
Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East. The loss is the third in 14 all-time meetings between the two programs and former North Central Community College Conference foes, and the WolfPack still owns a 10-3-1 record against the Trojans. The match was completed in humid conditions and despite two separate lightning delays that totaled roughly 80 minutes.
Triton College jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half. The Trojans first goal came in the 17' and marked the first goal allowed by freshman goalkeeper
Hope McFarlin after the DeForest, Wisconsin, native posted a shutout in the season opener. The visitors added two more goals in the 24' and 31'.
Madison College ended the scoring drought in the 41' when freshman midfielder
Karmen Smyth kicked her first collegiate goal. The native of Stoughton, Wisconsin, secured a loose ball well-beyond the penalty and fired a shot that slipped past the opposing 'keeper.
Unfortunately, Triton College followed with another goal in the 43' to make it a 4-1 game at halftime. The second half was played much more evenly, with only Triton College (1-0) scoring a goal in the 51'.
