The Madison College Athletics Department enjoyed its most successful year academically in 2020-21, and did so while a majority of it's student-athletes continued attending mostly virtual classes amidst the Covid-19 Pandemic. A school-record 37 Madison College student-athletes were named
NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Award winners, surpassing the previous high mark of 20 set in each of the last three years. This year's group also includes five WolfPack student-athletes who earned a perfect 4.00 over the course of two semesters.
By earning a 3.60 or better grade point average over two semesters, the 37 student-athletes found their names on the NJCAA's Academic Student-Athlete Award list. The group includes representatives from seven of the nine Madison College varsity sports teams. The WolfPack softball team produced 13 award winners - that's 62% of the team's roster - to lead the way, followed by baseball with eight. Setting another school record were five student-athletes boasting a perfect 4.0 GPA's, as
Jadyn Holman (women's volleyball),
Katie Joten (softball),
Lauren Steien (softball),
Zach Storbakken (baseball), and
Emma Strieker (women's soccer) earned NJCAA All-Academic First Team. Thirteen others received second team accolades, with 19 more earning third team distinctions.
The Madison College softball team, led by head coach
Leo Kalinowski, posted a collective 3.46 team GPA and were honored as a
NJCAA Softball Academic Team of the Year. The award is given to all teams with a 3.00 GPA as a team.
Madison College also featured 78
North Central Community College Conference (N4C) Academic All-Conference Award winners over the course of the last two semesters. Those student-athletes were able to achieve a 3.00 or better grade point average with a minimum of 12 credits passed in a semester.
As the second year student-athletes with the highest individual cumulative grade point averages, Jadyn Homen (women's volleyball),
Katie Joten (softball), Thomas Llamas (Esports),
Lauren Steien (softball),
Zach Storbakken (baseball), and
Emma Strieker (women's soccer) were named the
Madison College Top Female and Male Scholar Athletes.
