MADISON, WISC. - In their final home game of the regular season, the Madison College women's soccer team closed out that portion of their schedule with a 1-0 win over Illinois Valley Community College in a Region 4 match on Sunday at
Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East. The win gives the WolfPack a sweep of two meetings with the Eagles this season, and a 6-0 all-time record against IVCC.
The WolfPack jumped ahead immediately with a goal early in the match's third minute. As the team's exchanged possession in the Madison College offensive zone, freshman
Monica Tapia-Gutierrez found
Angelina Perez at the 18-foot line, and Perez worked through a couple of defenders to find a look at the net and promptly beat the Eagles goalkeeper. The kick was the earliest goal scored in a game this season for the 'Pack, and gives the Madison, Wisconsin, native a team-best four goals on the season. For Tapia-Gutierrez, the helper is her second assist this spring, putting the former Madison East HS duo as first and second in points this season with Perez at ten points and Tapia-Gutierrez at eight.
From that point on, Madison College continued to attack the IVCCÂ (0-3) defense, finishing with a 14-8 edge in shots on goal and a 23-10 advantage in overall shots. Perez and Tapia-Gutierrez each had seven shots in the game, with the former posting four shots on goal and the latter with five.
Amelia Clarquist and
Brittany Lenz both had four total shots, and Clarquist was able to put three on goal.
Marin Stauffacher put together her best performance in net with eight saves as she earned her first career shutout.Â
