MADISON, WISC. - The wins just keep coming for the Madison College softball team, which improved its current win streak to nine straight games with a sweep of Region 4 foe McHenry County College on Sunday at
Robert D. Goodman Softball Field. The WolfPack won by scores of 8-3 and 8-0, with the finale coming in a run-rule shortened five innings.
Game #1: Madison College 8, McHenry County College 3 (7 innings)
The day's first game saw both team score in the opening inning, with MCC posting a run in the top half and the WolfPack answering with two runs in the home half.
Abby Luczak's single up the middle drove in a run, and was followed by a sac fly to right from
Megan Miklesh to plate
Maddie Kvatek. The Scots came back against starter
Mallory Sterling to put up three straight hits and two run in the second inning. Down 3-2, the 'Pack pulled even with a Kvatek RBI-single in the third, and then went ahead for good in the fifth with two runs on a hit and two walks.
Bella Williams led off with a walk and raced home on a sac fly from
Megan Miklesh.
Katherine Brandl's double to center drove in pinch runner
Hannah Melum. A three-run sixth inning gave the 'Pack full control of the game. Three of the first four batters picked up extra base hits, with
Katie Joten doubling in
Briel Burg after the Rubicon, Wisconsin, native led off the inning with a two-bagger. A triple from Kvatek pushed in Joten, and Luczak drove in Kvatek with a single.
Kvatek was one of three players with two hits in the game, and the Stevens Point, Wisconsin, native used hers to generate two RBI and two runs scored. Luczak had two hits and two runs batted in, while Miklesh drove in a pair with one hit. Joten and
Bella Williams matched Kvatek for team-high honors with two runs.
Sterling (8-0), who has not lost a game in 13 appearances, struck out seven batters and allowed two earned runs on six hits in her seven innings.
Game #2: Madison College 8, McHenry County College 0 (5 innings)
Sophomore
Cathryn Hiller locked down the Scots bats over five innings in the finale, scattering two hits and striking out three to improve to 5-1.
While the Random Lake, Wisconsin, product was dominant in the circle, her teammates handed her a lead early.
Maddie Kvatek kept her hot bat going with triple to right to score
Katherine Brandl, and then crossed home when
Abby Luczak followed wiht a single. It was still 2-0 until Kvatek's ground out in the third inning was enough for Brandl to score again. Six hits in the fifth inning produced five runs and an 8-0 advantage.
Taylor VonBehren got the big inning started with a lead-off triple. Joten, Brandl, Kvatek, Luczak, and
Paige Peloquin all came through with run-scoring hits.
Kvatek went 2 for 3 with three RBI and two runs scored to finish the twin bill with four hits, five runs batted in, and four scored. The productive day helped push Kvatek's batting average to .564, which places her fifth in the country. Brandl, a native of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, led the team with three runs on two hits, and drove in another run. Luczak's two hits yielded two runs driven in.
Madison College boasts a 10-7 lead in the all-time series.

Madison College (36-5) was originally scheduled to play against N4C and in-state foe Milwaukee Area Technical College on Tuesday, May 4, however, the doubleheader was canceled. That schedule change sets up the completion of a home-and-home series with McHenry County College (13-11). The WolfPack will now travel to Crystal Lake, Illinois, for a Region 4 twin bill on Wednesday, May 5. Game one will begin at 3:00 p.m., with the nighcap to follow at approximately 5:00 p.m.
